Rode a quick lap after work (mtb) and managed to clean a rooty uphill section that I've never cleaned before. Also did 30 miles on greenway on my hardtail last Saturday.
I had started running again and was interspersing my riding with running (we've also had temps in the 10s and snow/ice everywhere, so running is easier), but injured my knee running and am trying to rest it. So back to spending most of my time on the bike.
About to pull the trigger on a YT Izzo, which will be nice to have. I've always taken my mid-travel trail bikes and beefed them up to bike park/enduro sleds in the past, so they can handle our trips out West and East. But I'm going to keep this baby nice and light to be suitable for the majority of daily riding I do on the trails aorund here.
The boy (I provided race updates last year) is going to move away from enduro and try his hand at downhill this year, so he's got a YT Tues now. Not sure exactly what his race schedule is going to look like, but it's going to involve us traveling a lot, unfortunately. Closest downhill races to us our at least 10 hours away. But... might as well do it while we still can.

i wish our local trails necessitated something like an Izzo for daily use.
sadly we're about to lose about 10 miles of singletrack right in the middle of the city. these trails arent anything crazy, but when i want to go rip around for an hour or 2 they are right there.. the airport has not been a friend to the mtb community here. we've already lost miles of trail to their expansions

He's learning a lot and having a blast. Three races under his belt..
DHSE at Rock Creek was the first one:
Qualified 4th, which was awesome. In race run, he was 2nd at the last split then crashed and finished 12th.
DHSE at Trials Training Center:
Crashed in both quali run and race run. 9th place.
Monster Pro Cup at Rock Creek:
Way off the pace in qualis. He's starting to struggle with nerves and not being able to keep nutition down on quali and race day. As such, he felt low energy and had a crah.
Rebounded and had a much better headspace on race day and shaved 5 seconds off his quali time and moved up several spots.
He definitely performs better when he's having fun and not trying to push too much. He's never really been a headcase in competition, so it's been interesting seeing him deal with mental struggles. Basically he's putting too much pressure on himself and his best performance was his first race when he had no expectations.
It's wild how fast all the juniors are, though. He may be going up to the Mountain Creek Monster Pro Cup in May. Going to skip Massanutten for DHSE, I think and just go out for a training weekend at Wind Rock that weekend instead.
We haven't totally decided on schedule after May. Probably focus mainly on races out West in the mountains.

I watched the Monster races at rock creek last night. Hope he figures out how to get comfortable and do his thing during big races. nerves are definitely one of those things where you gotta figure out what works for you and calms you down. he'll get there.
good luck with the rest of the season!

Bump.
Does anyone have any races/rides planned? I’m trying to keep some on the calendar, and looking to add a couple in the summer, fall, and winter.

Nothing on the calendar at the moment. Raced an XC MTB race last Saturday and regional 40k TT the next day on Sunday. Podium'd both so was happy with the weekend. I'll probably do a few more of the localish XC races this summer

Figure I’ll jump in here after hijacking another thread and chatting with DownSouth. I’m a total cycling newb and just finished resto-modding this 2001 Bianchi Eros and have yet to get it out on the road. Need the weather to clear and time to get out there. Any tips and pointers for a new rider appreciated.
And here is my other ride I built up a few months ago. Great commuter ride but sooo slow, which is why I grabbed the Bianchi.
And if anyone has interest in restoring a vintage bike, I’ve got a bunch of great condition Campy parts taking up space in my garage now.

I would like to do the entire portion of Minnesota’s Mississippi River Trail, but we’ll see. I’d have to break it up over a few weeks/months.
That sounds awesome.
I did the Farm to Fork 62 (61.5) a couple weekends ago. That was my first ride where I actually felt competitive. Finished in 2:50 thanks to a good group of fast riders I fell in with.
I’ve got the Rattlesnake Rumble at Camp Shelby on 5/31. 12 hours of gravel on a 25 mile loop. I signed up to ride duo, so it’ll be one lap on, one lap off. Shooting for 8 total laps (4 each). We ran one lap this past weekend and came out at about 1:30 on a not real hard effort. So 8 total should be doable.
We saw this guy out there, so the course is already living up to its name:

If you plan on riding a lot, I’m going to recommend spending money on a really good bike fit.
Not opposed. Going to try to dial in best I can on my own. Kind of dipping my toes in cycling, so don’t anticipate riding a ton. Mostly to commute to work here and there and as cardio when it’s too hot for running.

do a free fit on myvelofit. if anything it will help you get your saddle position in a good range

Welp cant check this thread during grand tour season if people are gonna be posting spoilers

Took my Bianchi out for a shakedown around the block and to get used to spd-sl pedals. Getting used to the pedals was easier than I thought…shaking the bike down a bit tougher. Not sure if I cross chained or what. Chain got jammed on the FD and fell off the big ring. Gonna have to get it on the stand and adjust. It was shifting great when I finished it, maybe the new cables stretched. Chain could be worn too as I reused the one that was on it. Hmmm.

Just trying to garner interest in, and provide information about, cycling in tOfficial Cycling Thread. You’re welcome for reviving it.
Let us know the requisite amount of time you need to catch up on the stages. Is it the full 21 stages of the Giro? So after June 1?
Here’s a link to Stage 2 results: LINK

I’m still getting used to Look Keos. After months and months of steady riding.
Your projects have me looking for that Trek. Time is a short commodity for me right now, though.
