I highly recommend setting up a consultation with her to discuss what your expectations should be. Note that it's not cheap, since she doesn't fully participate in the insurance model. She was able to file one of my deficiencies as a diagnosis, but insurance still didn't cover a whole lot. That's a good thing in my mind because she's not bound by what insurance will allow.
She ordered a BUNCH of bloodwork for me and mapped me out on paper with those results. She showed me what deficiencies I had, what issues those were causing, what signs and symptoms they were manifesting as, and what chronic issues they could lead to. It was crazy to see her explain everything I was feeling and experiencing that I never told her about.
To give you an idea of how she operates, I asked her about this methylation test that everyone's talking about, because she didn't have it on the list she ordered. She told me that all of the blood work she ordered would tell her what she needed to know, and the methylation test, among other things, would be ordered if these tests pointed to that. It ended up not pointing to that and she showed me exactly why in my test results.
I drink a lot of water, was listening to Gary Brecka and Andrew Huberman at the time, and was taking a few supplements based on what they were recommending. I was always getting sick with lack of sleep due to young kids and work stress. She said by the looks of my bloodwork I'm "running from the lion" the minute my eyes open in the morning to when I go to sleep at night.
She had me supplement some vitamins and minerals to make up the deficiencies, gave me some breathing techniques like box breathing, and told me to keep doing what I was doing diet-wise, which was removing seed oils and processed carbs. She gave me a bunch of simple tips that work.
In my opinion she should be the person covered by insurance, not the other way around.

I’d say that’s too high. You’re not getting jacked if you don’t lift with intensity. You’re not getting to 200lbs,15% BF, and shapely muscles with diet alone.
If OP said to lose weight, diet is more important but you still have to move.
My tip for getting “jacked” is do what you love and do it with intensity. Some people love the scientific BB stuff bc it’s more efficient but I absolutely fricking hate it. I’m usually a stats/research guy since I’m an engineer but lifting to me is an outlet not something else on my plate to worry about the small stuff.

Thank you for that great explanation.
She sounds like exactly what I've been looking for.

You can't outwork a bad diet.

You technically can. NFL players do it all the time

What kind of diet? I hear so many different recommendations.

--Lift for intensity, not duration of workout. It sounds hokey, but having mind muscle connection and really being dialed in on every rep, not just counting to a set number of sets and reps.
--If you're older, be focused on range of motion, supplement heavy with joint work, listen to your body, dont over train. Listen to Jay Cutler and guys who talk about longevity lifting.
--Ditch alcohol yesterday.
For context im approaching middle age and have been lifting consistently since early teenage years. I train less now than I did in my 20s, but really feel like I leave it all on the field every session. Not as cut as I was then, but im as strong as I've ever been.

It’s not. At all. You have to work your arse off consistently to be jacked and lean

Less is more. Too much volume can kill your gains.

Really fricks up everything you are trying to do:
Late night (bad eating) eating after drinking;
Consistency and intensity. You either blow off the gym because you feel bad or you go but there is nothing in the tank except those flaming hot Cheetos you ate the nigh before.
Not worth it.

It's ALL about eating better. No 2 ways about it. Once you grasp that, peptides and trtfor older guys.
Getting older is normal. Looking like older people is not so normal, its a condition of abusing your body

1. No alcohol
2. Run a program (wasted a lot of time in the gym with frickarounditis)
3. Take sleep seriously
4. Abs are 100% made in the kitchen

Being skinny fat is 100% in kitchen. Not sure why people downplay working out.

Skinny fat people don't have abs, believe me I learned that lesson after losing nearly 40 lbs on the Keto diet.

My sleep is probably my #1 problem. Diet used to be, and it's not perfect now, but way better than it was.

This. It was fun doing burnouts every Friday in high school but grandpa doesn't recover like he used to.
Dropping the weight and focusing on 3-5 sets of smooth, athletic reps has been amazing for me. I'm running the Boring but Big version of 531 with 5 sets of 10 at 50% of training max - those sets make everything so much more confident and coordinated when I'm working with heavier weights

Start too light with linear progression, remove your ego.
If I could go back in time, I would absolutely start with JUST the barbell and add 5lbs at a time. I let my ego get in the way and missed out on easy LP gains. Lost 70lbs of fat, I would have benefited from being patient (even if it would have felt silly squatting tiny plates for weeks).
