Has anyone here had this surgery? I am needing this along with L4-5, So it is a 3 level fusion. I am super nervous about recovery and results. I understand it is super invasive and a really painful and long road.
If you had it, was a anterior and posterior access or just posterior? Who did the surgery? I live in lafayette but don’t mind traveling a couple of hours. I’ve had consults with 2 Ortho spine guys and 1 neuro. I think I have more confidence in the neuro surgeon, but I want to make sure I’m making right choice.
Any feedback or advice is greatly appreciated.

Always go neuro when you’re dealing with the spine. My dad went through a similar fusion a few years ago and is doing really well with it. Problem will never be fully gone, but he says he gets about 95% relief from it.

You’re going to be put out for at least 6 weeks though. It’s definitely going to be a really tough battle for you. Prayers sent and I hope it all works out man.

I had fusion between L3 and L4 and L4 and L5. Had the XLIF procedure. You can find it on YouTube. Only did it because all other options were done such as pain management doctors. Am I back to normal? I just have a new normal. Am now on disability. 58 years old. Had deteriorating disc disease. Glad I had it done but it’s no walk in the park. Glad I did it. Dr Jorge Isaza did mine. I’d recommend him.

I’m 38 and have a herniated L4-S1. Will eventually need a fusion, I think. Keep us updated on your progress

Any good exercises after the surgery?

Specifically stretches or resistance training?

My dad had this done a few years ago and he's 62 now. I'd like to get him to get into better shape to hopefully help this further.

I did physical therapy for over a year and hit a plateau. Finally got back in the gym and do high reps with low weights. Your body will let you know what you can and can’t do. I don’t lift weight off the ground. Have incorporated swimming about 6 weeks ago. Not a lot of improvement in motion nor pain relief but am getting in much better shape and losing weight. Eating better. I have a new normal.
