Smelling salts while lifting

Has anyone ever tried this before? I saw that idea in a few websites about it dramatically increasing your adrenaline. I just now tried it to power through my last couple sets, chest day, and HOLY CRAP does it work. I feel like I can redo my entire workout right now.

I feel like I would look like a big douche walking around Anytime Fitness with smelling salts.

I made my own gym at home so I can act like I want to
Now only my wife can call my a douch

I have wanted to give it a try. I saw Theo Von doing some with Joe Rohan last week and he was into it.

Thor did it right before his deadlift record.

Are you supposed to just do it once or multiple times during a workout? I’m somewhat fascinated by the different ways adrenaline can improve performance.

I think it is wise to limit it to just top sets, PR attempts, contests, when you feel you need the extra kick.

Save it for when you really need it. Max effort, new PRs, competitions, situations that demand you be at your highest level of intensity. You can build a tolerance to it, so if you use it all the time, it won’t be as potent. They also gradually fade, so if you’re opening the bottle all the time, you’re going to have to replace it sooner. I use it very, very rarely. It has a way of fricking with my focus, so I only use it during competition when I’m feeling anxious or nervous.

Which I find kind of funny, because that bar moved pretty quickly.

I did it once for just my last 2 sets and I felt like the Ultimate Warrior through it and for about 20 minutes post workout. That was the only time I’ve ever done it.

Used to use it a lot when I was powerlifting. My impression of it was that it kind of cleared your sinuses and let you get a big gulp of air just before the lift. The pain/sharpness from it also got your mind in the right spot.

It is somewhat interesting to hear about things to get your mind in the right spot. Apparently Kobe would listen to that Halloween music (Michael Myers) to get his mind in the right spot. Stuff like the placebo pills are just great examples of people not using their mind well in everyday life. I do feel that a lot of modernity is designed to negatively effect people for whatever eason.

I can't disagree with that. One of the reasons I loved powerlifting was that when I about to pull a PR the rest of the world ceased to exist. It was me and the weight. The building could have been on fire and I wouldn't have noticed. I'm pretty ADD and have serious attention span issues and it was always nice to have a singular focus for a bit.

I'd do it before my lifts in powerlifting meets. Def helps.

Use to be pretty common in boxer's corners to be used during fights to help clear the head if they got their bell rung during a round.
