Severe ankle sprain

I severely sprain my ankle back on December 3rd by rolling it at almost a 90 degree angle. Doc put me in a walking boot for a week. No break, just a really bad sprain. I’ve been able to walk fine since and even go dancing at a popular country bar here in Dallas with no pain. The swelling has gone down too and there’s no more bruising. I still can’t run/jog though without a lot of pain. How long will this take to heal? I can’t workout my legs and the only cardio I can do without pain is the stair stepper. I can’t run, squat, or lunge. It’s just frustrating, so if anyone with a similar experience has advice, I’d appreciate it
Pics are from the day after I blew it out.

I had a 3rd degree sprain in high school with ligaments torn off both sides. I wasn't a bright kid and I think the doc was worse. They just wrapped in an ace bandage with my toe pointing down or rather, my foot was in a relaxed position. My flexibility is fricked up to this day.

Did you get an MRI? Looks like your peroneal tendon either popped out over the ball of your ankle (dislocation) or tore.

I hate to break it to you, but your ankle is probably always going to be a little unstable now. I had a bad one a few years back and still don’t think it’s fully recovered. I’ve also sprained it a couple more times in the meantime because it’s so weak.
Doc has told me one more bad sprain and it’s surgery time which would suck.

My ankle/foot looked very similar to yours a few years ago, expect mine looked like that a full MONTH after the initial injury. My general doctor panicked and sent me to a ortho at that point, but he just put me back in a boot and told me to give it another 4 weeks. Things looked pretty bleak for a few months, but I eventually came back 100%, maybe stronger. Keep in mind I was 19 at the time. Your country dancing experience leads me to believe you're a good deal older.
Scratching off half a inch of dead skin off my foot after the first splint was removed was the most euphoric moment of my life.

Lol, I’m 40, but have been country dancing since I was 25. People in Texas two step. It’s like dancing with the stars, on steroids to country music lol. The bar is crawling with 21-30 year old arse everywhere. It’s pretty nuts and like shooting fish in a barrel.
Anyway: It’s only been 4 weeks for me, so I’m thinking another 4-6 weeks. Good to hear about your experience and know that mine really isn’t as bad! Glad you recovered at 100%

Nah, just X-rays. I know it’s not dislocated. I think I’d know that a month in at this point. I do feel like something may be slightly torn. Nothing major, but still torn nonetheless.

I’m thinking that too honestly.
