Question about bench max

Is it ok to have assistance in getting the bar out of the rack? I've always had someone assist me in getting it out the rack then I take it all the way from there.

I don't think getting an assist out of the rack will DQ you from a lift. Now bouncing the bar off your chest is another story.

Yes. That's how it is in comp I believe.

I don't bounce it off my chest, I just touch my chest with bar.

An actual legit bench requires a pause on the chest. It takes a big bite out of a bench press lift if you don't do that but of course, you can always throw on a bench shirt to offset.

So a legitimate bench max means no assistance out of rack and a pause on your chest before coming up? Damn

I think you can get help out of the rack in a meet if we are gonna follow meet rules to legitimize a bench max. Been a long time since I did a bench lift in a meet but I don't recall that you couldn't get help out. The main thing is the pause at the bottom. You also have to control it once it is un-racked and also control it to rack it. However the spotter tends to help with racking it too once the judge greenlights it as good.

Nothing wrong with a handoff. Just don't let them help you up.

Get a rack mounted monolift, no need for a lift off then, you always start the lift in the perfect position. It's glorious!!!

I've thought about getting one but you still have to move the bar to get in position for the bench.

In competition, you can get a handoff from the bench/rack.

I never liked getting an assist off the rack. It allows me to feel the weight out of the rack and I'm able to control it.
When someone assists, they just yank it off the jhooks and let go.
