Prostate cancer recovery

I just turned 58 in November.
I was first diagnosed in October 2017, with my psa was 4.5 and over the years it has been 5.8 (9/2019), 5.0 (6/2020), 4.4 (12/2020), 5.0 (4/2021), 5.7 (7/2021), 6.9 (12/2021).
And my Gleason score was 6 (7/2020), 7 (10/2021), that same biopsy was reviewed by MD Anderson came back at 8 - which basically removed me from being a candidate for HIFU or other methods.
I spoke with my local urologist in Baton Rouge, an HIFU specialist in New Orleans, the Mayo Clinic in MN, a cousin that’s an urologist in NC, and MD Anderson and they all suggest removal via Robotic surgery so December 16 that’s what I did.
My local urologist suggested I reach out to anyone I might know that went through this and honestly I don’t (or atleast no one that I’m aware of) Well my Dad went through this in mid 1990’s and he’s 94 so I don’t think he’ll remember much. And I don’t want him worrying about me.
So I wanted to get an idea about the recovery- I’ve spent some time online but I think it’s seems to be the ones with negative experiences that seem to post more than other.
The leaking has been more frustrating than anything right now.
I’ve been doing my Kegel exercises everyday as recommended.
I’m not that concerned about erections. I’ll cross that bridge soon enough.

Can’t add anything other than sending good thoughts your way. Good luck!

Wish you weren’t going through this. Stand tough and kick arse. Get better soon!

No worries- I was just hoping to “hear” about recovery a timeframe.
Thanks again.

I leaked for about a year. I started doing some Wim Hoff type breathing exercises around that time and it seemed to help a lot. I still leak sometimes when exercising but nothing serious. Don't get discouraged. It's a process. Ypu will get through it.

Ok thanks- my second question would be about ED stuff. My surgery was only on December 17 - so I’m in extremely early post surgery recovery

So I wanted to get an idea about the recovery
I just had the surgery back in Sept. I haven't hit 50 just yet. I did a lot of exercising before it and I believe it's helped me tremendously now. From April of last year up until the surgery I really ramped up the plyometrics and core exercises. I believe my experience may not be the same as most but I didn't have any major problems with incontinence. As soon as the catheter was removed, I felt fine for the most part even though you almost have to retrain your thinking. It got even better as the days have progressed.
The only problem I still have in that regard is I cannot rush the finish at the urinal or forcefully squeeze out a fart on a whim.
I may still get a last dribble or something but I think I always did that. I drink lots of water daily too. Honestly, the best part is I can sleep through the night now without getting up to go to the bathroom.
As far as ED, it's not like it was before but it finally came around even without the pills. The pills do work but I can't handle the side effects that well.
Hope that is a positive experience that you may be seeking.

You sound like my wife.
Best of luck GB.

I’m just trying to set for realistic expectations.

That’s what I concerned about as far as ED- that unfortunately my best days might be behind me. The Dr did recommend a penis vacuum pump - so there’s that.

Ask your urologist for one of the pills. He prescribe one or the other and try that. Trimix works but that involves and injection which is not painful, believe it or not.
Go to an apothecary to get the prescriptions fill. It's a lot cheaper.

maybe, maybe not. What I meant as not like before is that it takes a little more stimuli than just a strong breeze and pretty picture to get the blood flowing.

I understand- normally when the wife shows me the asto-glide that’s all it took.
She might have to show it to twice lol.
