Proper way to use an elliptical?

Any tips? All I ever see is women leisurely using these things, I assume there is an effective way to use it to supplement weight lifting.

What? You just move your body.

Well I figured that, so just hop on and tune it up and go?

Doing the elliptical at a high resistance is so much better than running IMO.
The way I do it is I gradually build up in intervals.

I see too many people set it to a very low resistance and go really fast virtually tearing up the poor elliptical, plus they aren't getting nearly the workout that they could.

Turn it up and have a go, it can be a great low impact workout if you don't cheat yourself.

I just get on it and maintain a 5-6 mph pace to keep my HR around 65%.

I use to be an elliptical guy, but then I read a study on them where they put your body in an un-natural position. Not good to do extensive amounts of time. Still undecided on how I feel about the article.

To warm up...that's about all an elliptical machine is good for.
