How confident are you in efficacy, label
accuracy and safety of your supplements?

I ask because I am not highly confident most of the time. Not enough time to do the right research so have leaned on only very few that I have done research or was recommended by people I trust.

Tend to focus on proper nutrition in base diet as a result.

Back of my mind, I have always felt that many (perhaps most) supplements make for expensive urine. But again, I don’t do the research most of the time either.

Not super confident. I tend to look at supplement manufacturer certification and reviews, but I’m still not confident.

I think that’s the right approach. Everything I take targets a specific medical condition and most were recommended by my doctors.

I’ve changed my diet as much as I’m willing to because I’m not giving up everything I enjoy. Maybe the supplements let me get away with a little more, maybe they don’t. It’s hard to tell how effective they are, even with blood tests, since I’m making other changes at the same time. Magnesium Glycinate, on the other hand, is a miracle drug for me. It will never leave my stack. It’s that noticeable in my life. I got emotional about a week after I started taking it, because it’s effect were so profound, and I had been enduring misery for so long for something that was corrected so easily.

It’s definitely a factor. I choose to pay a little more for good brands that I trust. All the ones I take have clinical evidence supporting their use so I don’t worry about that piece of it. You just have to have concrete goals, do your research, and use trustworthy brands.

What do you take it for?

I’m assuming you’re asking about the Magnesium Glycinate.

It happened so slowly I never questioned it.

I stayed active most of my life, walking, jogging, running. But over time something changed. After every workout I had to stop and stretch, fighting what I thought were shin splints. It got the the point I was stretching several times during and hour sessions to relieve the pain. (I wasted a lot of money on shoes, read articles about shin splints and about things like drop in shoes but nothing seemed to work) After exercising my legs would start firing in strange ways, like little muscle fibers twitching under the skin. I didn’t understand it, so I ignored it.

I told myself it was just getting older. I was 50.

I had always dealt with cramps in my calves, waking up in pain in the middle of the night. That part felt normal. But then it started happening in my jaw. I would wake up with it tightening the same way. It was strange, but again I brushed it off, sucks getting old.

Then one day while watching TV, a blurry spot appeared. I thought the screen was going bad. I stood up and realized it was my vision. Within minutes everything was blurred and I could barely see.

I laid down while my wife checked my blood pressure. It was normal. A few hours later my vision came back.

After that it started happening more often.

I went through tests, scans, and finally saw a neurologist. At this point I’m anticipating the worst. But after all of it, his advice was simple. Take magnesium glycinate for a couple of weeks and let’s see what happens.

That was it.

About a week later, the vision issues stopped. Then I went for a run.

I kept going. No pain. No tightness. My legs felt light again. I felt like I was 20 years old.

I called my wife during the run because I could not believe it. I got emotional. I realized that for years even an easy jog had felt like the end of a marathon, and I thought that was normal.

That is the hardest part to explain. Not the symptoms, but how something so simple quietly took so much without me noticing.

Thanks for sharing that. So what was the diagnosis? Magnesium deficiency?

Yep, but my understanding is it’s virtually impossible to determine or detect through a blood test because your body apparently robs everything of magnesium to regulate it in your blood.
