Got the Garmin HRM-Run as a birthday present from my in-laws. Have worn it on my last couple of runs and I'm inundated by the extra data but not sure what to make of it just yet. Also still trying to find the right size on the strap, sometimes feels too tight, but after a few miles the sweat starts to cause it to slide.

Also, damn it's hot. Lunch run just now was 96F @ 55% humidity. Started falling apart at mile 4, and ended up with 5.

And prolly a 75 dewpoint. Those exact conditions at my house right now, 111 feels like.

My old coach would say that it’s poor man’s altitude training. Makes you tougher... that fricking guy. *shakes head*

Yup, dewpoint at 72, heat index of 103F, feels like 116. My run sucked. I was sucking water every 10 mins. I've never run out of water on a 5 mile run, until today.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a hill workout (overpass workout). Going to do that early when it's only 80 with 86% humidity...

Well, I'm not much of an early runner except for the weekends. My Sat run groups starts at 6AM. So, I run in the evenings and just deal with the heat. Next run is Thursday night, but it looks like rain which will be nice.

Boise/Ada County just forbid all public gatherings over 10 people indefinitely. I'm going to write that off and move on.

As of now, see you guys in Monroe on 11/8.

If that goes to hell , I have White River & Mississippi Gulf Coast left. I'm not running my first marathon in my neighborhood by myself haha.

Did you like that?

Here are some of "Dave's" finest...

After only looking at two weeks of my training:

"You're running nothing but garbage miles"

Without having looked at any of my workouts:

"You could have ran a 1:11 half if you were doing 50-60 mpw"

"Even the elites don't do doubles every day"

"Yeah, I know I said we'd start you off at 60 mpw, but that was before I saw your training. I have to protect myself." Proceeds to make me run a high wet bulb un-acclimated time trial.

Then proceeds to take said failed time trial and base all my training paces of of it. (including marathon, lol) 5k results =/= marathon pace

"I coach a few guy's that are 2:15" No evidence that he coaches any elite runners. Or at least none of them claim him.

"Yeah, we got to get you in the CIM." Me: (jokingly) probably get beat by 50 incredible female runners. "And half of them are coached by me!"

There's more, but these are the ones that stick out. Remember, I've only talked to the guy 4 times including the initial "chat" out of nine weeks because he cancelled so many weekly check ins.

Now, here is my favorite: (after telling him I'm dropping his services because he's skipped 4 calls in a row) Via email...

"I really think we need to discuss this, but not today. I have 30 calls I need to make. What time can I reach you tomorrow?"

Sure. And don’t forget this one: (after the email wanting to talk it out) “I’ve slept on it, and I just don’t think that you trust me so I’m dropping you as an athlete”.

He’s a narcissist and doesn’t understand that his actions and mouthyness have/had consequences. In his mind, he thinks that he’s an amazing coach and did everything he could to set me up for success.

I can tell you this, the VDOT training calculator was doing all the coaching.

No shite! Wow.

Some kinda bug going around our house this week, complete with COVID tests, etc. No results yet (wife/son). My son must have picked it up at Preschool, being his first week in a daycare/preschool setting. Putting that immune system to work; this should be fun! That said, I've got the throat/congestion end of it. Will be a down week on running/training this week, even lower volume than usual lately.

I have an 8 week 10K plan starting this Monday programmed into Garmin, so we'll see. Plan is to run the NS 10K on 10/11. Don't feel like I'm in a place to PR it, but sub 42 I think is a decent enough goal at this point, with a sub 40 in the Spring.

Because for most people starting out, any advise is good advise to them. Improvement will occur regardless if you just run consistently, but improvement can be claimed by the coaches "methods". Secondly, he has that rah, rah get tough shtick that people love to gobble up.

Rock n' Roll-NOLA (3/5/2021-3/7/2021) is canceled.

It seems a little early to cancel.

I don’t know him personally or professionally, but he gets a fair bit of advertising from the BITR guys bc the BITR founder uses/used him as a coach. Now the coach is doing shoe reviews for them which is probably another reason why he was out of touch with Burt.

Yeah, and because he’s spread out so much, he’d do better with passive clients that aren’t really looking to make big leaps in time and training. He’d do well with folks that are just happy to be running a little better. Similar to the BITR folks he used to coach (neither were very good, but both embody the passion and spirit of the sport).

I’ll even admit it wasn’t a fit from the go. I need a coach who is like a teammate giving constant feedback. As a matter of fact, the only reason I didn’t fire him after the first week, was that I’d already paid the 325 for the full 3 months and didn’t want to waste it. I should have cut ties regardless.

6.5 last night. Did the hill route and it was brutal with the heat and humidity. 10:30 pace with over 1000ft of elevation. I ran The Beast by my house: 1.5 miles and 700ft of climb. I took two water stops on this one.
