During long runs, you should be able to talk in complete sentences. Your breathing shouldn’t be labored. Judge your speed based on your breathing.

Personally, I don’t eat anything before my long runs and I always do them in the morning. This isn’t for everyone though, and it’s a little harder on your body because it’s relying on your fat reserves for energy.

Do you fuel during run?

Do you live in NWA also Burt?

3.5 miles this morning. Rough night with the baby last night so I was feeling pretty craptacular with my 5:30am wake up call.

Shoe update:

Finally after obsessing for two months got a new pair of shoes. ASICS Gel Kayano 24. Regularly $160 but since it was the old model, I got them for $110.

Felt good on the first run. Kinda tight in the toes but that’ll break in quickly. Slight slippage on the left heel but I can restring them to fix that.

Yes I do.

6 miles in non swampass this morning. still 75 degrees but the humidity was fine for the first time in ages. i can honestly say that's my favorite run since April.

PSA: If your heartrate is below 50 and it's your first time giving blood, they will deny you without approval from your doctor. My heartrate was 48.

i have a super low resting heart rate as well. in the high 40s to low 50s most of the time.

probably unrelated, but i have two issues with my heart rate. i faint at the sight of blood and i can't pee standing up first thing in the morning. the first one has lead to some not so fun stories. the second part is a rather hilarious thing that has lead to me passing out outside my house with my hand around my business. or my wife hearing me pass out in the morning by the shower and running into the bathroom with me butt naked peeing on myself on the floor.

probably TMI, but i find it funny.

6.5 miles this morning. Longest I have run in over two years. Felt good, had some 25 mph wind gust in the valley this morning so some stretches were rough. I'm starting to enjoy the morning runs more and more and getting them over with before my work day starts.

What kind of stretches do you guys do before (or after) runs?

I found that yoga for runners video in the yoga/mobility/flexibility thread. Is that good to go by?

None

Seriously not a need to stretch before a run unless something in particular is tight. Probably a good idea to stretch after, but I'm just too lazy.

Ditto. I only stretch my Achilles because they’re stiff every day. Long runs I may spend 5 minutes stretching before hand just because I know I’ll be stiff afterwards.

Any Ultra fans gonna be following UTMB? Hoping Walmsley can get it this year.

I usually do this one post run if I have time. If it’s the GymRa one; about 20 mins long. I feel better after I do it than if I don’t. I usually at least do a couple cycles of calf/quad/ham/hip stretches after if I don’t have time to get into Yoga. Holding each stretch for 30 seconds.

As far as resting HR. I had my annual physical this am and mine was 52.

I'll definitely be following.

I think Walmsley is the best chance of an American beating Kilian, but I don't know if he is ready just yet. Kilian is just such a goddamn beast.

Also don't sleep on Zach Miller. Dude just runs ball to the wall in every race.

Yeah, that was my reaction. When I'm at my most fit, my resting HR will be in mid 40's (which is odd since my running HR is quite high). I've never had issues like that. I think I'd see a doctor if I'm passing out while trying to take a piss

Micturition syncope

first time it happened, it was after my one and only drunken stupor. just chalked it up to being hungover and rushing to get to work the next morning.

next time was right after my vasectomy so i figured it was related to that. then it happened a 3rd and 4th time when i was getting ready for a shower. then we caught a rat and i killed it outside at 3 AM and decided to pee outside when i was throwing it out. then when i smashed my face in the ground on the concrete that time i got it checked out.

Yeah, it's Kilian's to lose no doubt. Hopefully Jim paces himself and doesn't go balls to the wall and end up pulling out, taking a nap, etc.

i only have to in the mornings or after a nap. my blood flow doesn't get going for a good 10-20 minutes till after i'm awake so i take it easy, go sit and pee, think about things, then get up and get going. i checked it once and my HR is in the 30s at night.
