PHB - Is that 5K a PR?

Yeah, man. I mean, fastest I’ve run one since I was in college (which was a long time ago now). Hard for sure but felt like I probably could’ve run a little faster if I was at a race and had that adrenaline going. It was definitely hard enough that I wanted to abandon that little experiment a couple of miles in

My plan called for an easy 16 miler or a 5k race plus 6 moderate. I really wanted to know where I am fitness-wise going into my marathon in a couple of weeks. No 5ks in this area today, so just tried to crank one out solo.

@PHB and HB

I was Strava stalking you guys a second ago.

PHB dude way to pour it on! I can't wait to see your race result.

Hogbody Believe me when I say this. I think that if you get your mileage up, and stay healthy, you'll be among the if not the fastest amateur dude not affiliated with the University in NWA if you want to be.

Being 30 is right around that runner's prime. Like I said before, you're very gifted, make the best of it you can.

Seeing that the whole group is really picking it up.

Fresh garb in the mail today. First pair of B.O.A. shorts I’ve bought. Caught them on sale on RW. I like the liner, the least restrictive I’ve found. That 3” inseam, Baws. Figure the color fits the Mardi Gras and St Pattys race themes. What length inseam y’all rockin on race day? I like to let what’s left of the quadz get some air, but not at the expense of my balls joining in.

Damn, you’re gonna look good. I’m usually 7 or 5 at the shortest. 3 on me would leave little to the imagination though.

I do 5 at the least. I’m man enough to admit I don’t hang that low that it would be an issue but my wife is suspect of 5 inch as it is.

My old cross county coach ran for A&M and still ran with us on workouts back in the day. he’d com out there in faded maroon shorts and definitely popped out a time or two.

Brings back some great memories of that guy. We were his first team to win district in 10 years and went to state. Then kids actually started caring about CC and he got a couple of state championships before he retired.

Well I did it! 24 minute 5k. I can not believe I ran that fast. There were a few big hills too, so I think I could have hit 23 minutes on a flat course.

It might not be a speed demon time for some of y'all, but first time I ran a 5k took 31 minutes and I thought I would puke just to finish.

Great job.

Did a wet climb up to the top of my park today. Wasn’t a fast day but I had a lot of fun.

I read a pretty funny analogy on Lets Run that was something to the effect of at an 10 minute mile you start out at 7" inseam and then every minute you shave off you get an inch off your shorts. If that's the case I'm not sure I've earned the 3" just yet, but I'm all in! Hopefully I stay all in.

How close are you to College Station? I should be coming there for work stuff training later this year, maybe we can hook up for a run if you are around there.

On a similar IRL note - BnG - I shot you a message on your most recent Strava run with my cell re: next weekend.

2ish hours depending on if A&M is in session. I’m down that way on occasion for sure. Stars would have align perfectly but if they do I’m open for it.

My wife is always weirded out at me meeting people from the internet and I think it’s one of the best things about the internet. I’ve met a few dudes from here and TexAgs and had a great time.

Finished week 4.

Week 5 starts the REAL fun.

By the end of the week I’ll be running 20 minutes straight

Oh without a doubt. She gave me the look when I told her I'd be meeting up with BnG to get a run in. Totally weirded out.

Running the Rose 22 miler today. They don't make hills like that South of Houston. Pace was ~11:30. Nice cold rainy weather too....it was a glorious day of self inflicted suffering.

Thanks! They really do put on great events. I'll check out Tejas Trails at some point too.

I’m partial to Tejas and Spectrum over TROT, but TROT is the biggest one and some of their ambassadors know it and are a bit haughty. I know some really nice ones as well, but overwhelmingly the former. It’s nothing against them. They do the most for sure.

I did a Tejas one last year and liked it a lot.

I’m doing a TROT race in San Angelo and March and then a Spectrum one in April. I had one in February but they cancelled it.

Agreed about the ambassadors... I'm thinking about using some volunteer credits for the Crazy Desert 50k. We could turn that into the TD meet up.
