This looks like the thread for me...
You and i are about the same build. Same height but I’m about 20lbs lighter (210), but I want to start changing what I eat and start looking into working out. I need a hobby and I’m finding that there are some foods I could eat when I was younger that are starting to have an effect on me now that I’m getting older.
Problem is, I have no idea where to start. I’ve never worked out before in my life. Ever. I don’t know how to. I’ve always played sports to stay I shape. Up until about 5-6 years ago when I slowed down and eventually stopped playing.
A couple questions.....
How and where did you start? Where did you find info on working out.
Now that you cut all the crap out, what did you start eating? Where’s a good place to start looking?
About 7-8 months ago, I tried the low carb diet. I didn’t eat any carbs for 3 months. I ate what I want (even fast food) but I cut all the carbs to under 50 a day. I lost 18lbs. Went to Vegas in October and fell off the wagon. Now with this Corona thing going on, I fell off and it backed over me a few times now.
Oh, and I have terrible gym anxiety. It’s incredibly difficult for me to go in there and not feel like everyone is watching me and looking at me like a fool because I have no idea what I’m doing.
Just looking for direction if anyone can help out.

I am definitely not the expert but here is what happened for me. I started walking everyday. Usually pushing my daughter in the stroller. Little farther, little faster pace each day. One day I went 2.5 miles, then 5 miles, then 8 miles in 2:15! Luckily she slept for almost 2 hours of it. Then I jogged about 300-400 feet during the walk a couple times. I started doing some pushups and chair dips. This was only 2 months ago. Now I'm running intervals, using kettlebells and bands, biking, and challenging myself everyday. I went to my doctor last week and I'm down 20lbs since my last visit. It came off slowly, which is okay by me because I plan to keep it off.
Diets that require strict adherence have never been my thing. I mostly do intermittent fasting. I fast at least 16 hours daily. I feel great, learned that hunger wont kill me, and it is simple. I usually eat eggs, plain greek yogurt with stevia, sliced strawberries and fiber one mixed all up, chicken, beef, or fish with beans or sweet potatoes. Snack on cashews or sunflower seeds. I'll have a protein shake or two also. I drink coffee, water, and Gatorade or powerade zero sometimes.
Like they say, the best plan is the one you will stick with. I've finally found what works for me. I went back and read a lot of threads on this board. There are some posters that know what they are talking about (lsu777, Rep520, stay away from OleWarSkuleAlum lol). For intermittent fasting I watched Dr. Jason Fung on YouTube. Good luck!

Sounds like a lot of carbs to me. Low carb, no alcohol, cardio and nothing after 7pm. Works every time for me. I used to win every weight loss challenge at work doing just that. Last July, I went from 225 to 183 in 7 months. Keeping it off. I’m turning 60 at the end of the year. Swimming laps has worked wonders for me.
