Monthly Exercise Challenge over 40 (updated 12/31)

I challenged a group of male friends ranging from mid 30s to mid 50s last month to complete a body weight routine.
1500 each of pushups, situps, and squats.
They were allowed to us any variation of those to achieve the total # in 30 days. Ex, wide pushups, close pushups, diamond and tricep pushups, crunches, oblique crunches, combined crunch leg lift, lunges, squat jumps, alternating stationary lunges, etc all accepted.
This was in addition to whatever exercise routine they were already doing.
Of the 8, 3 including myself completed the task.
Nov the 3 of us upped the reps and added some milage.
3000 reps of A,B and C
A pushups and/or pullups
B situps, crunches, and or reverse crunches
C squats or lunges
And 15 miles total run, jogged, or elliptical-or- 30 mile biked
Eta:
October, November, and December complete on to bigger and harder things in Jan.
My goal is to work up to the 10K pushup challenge, but I have to tell ya at 40+ I'm not sure 333 a day is a realistic goal.

I'm 42, and I completed the 10k challenge twice this year. Its nowhere near as hard as you're making it out to be. Nothing wrong with working up to that goal if you're not used to high volume work. But 10k in a month isn't some unreachable goal just because you're over 40.

How did you break it up?
Last month I did 2 sets of 25
This month currently 50-25-25

333 reps a day broken up however you can accomplish it. I would normally do sets of 100 three times a day broken up into sets of 50 or so.

150 pull-ups per day?
Posted on 12/5/19 at 10:18 pm to SabiDojo
Well all the others are listed as the whole month, so no 150 on the month.

Yeah I was confused bc for a month challenge that number seems pretty low. You can do a lot more than that brudda.

Never been good at pullups even before the separated shoulder. In general pullups are not a favorite movement for tall heavy guys.
5 a day is a good starting place for me

BP, sorry I missed this. I would have worked it in. May try to jump in this month and be up to speed for January.
You still killing hogs? Between my uncle, cousins and myself we are up to about 65 since deer season started.

Yep, killed a few Thanksgiving weekend when my sis and family came in.
Honestly, hunting season has made this challenge a tad more difficult, lol.

45, I’m in. Had to quit the 10k push-up challenge last spring as I was getting much bigger than I would like and I was losing flexibility, anyone else experience this with the push-up challenges?
Eta: recovering from an injury and just switched to push-up bars, any routines you like more than others?

Recently if I have time in the morning, I am breaking it up into 4 sets with 1 to 4 min between sets.
1 set
25 deadlifts
25 pushups
25 situps
25 pushups
And then at lunch I jog 1.5 miles on tread mill and do 2 sets of 5 pullups.
If I dont get them done at home, I go at lunch and do 4 sets of
Jog a half mile on treadmill
5 pullups
25 pushups
25 situps
25 pushups
And do 25 deadlifts if my knee isnt bothering me.
My goal is to get them all done over the month but with some nagging injuries and lack of a treadmill or pullup bar at home, I break up the daily routine a bit, as long as I dont fall behind too far because catch up is a bitch.
And call me weak if you need to but I am having to do my pullups on the assisted cable machine. Currently with 80 lbs assist for my 205 lb body.

As far as pushup or sit up variations. I mix it up based on how I feel and where I'm sore. I have pain from a ganglion cyst in my right wrist that I found the pushup bars to be helpful relieving. Usually about half close and half wide. And situps may be crunches, obliques, legraise crunch combo, etc.

Had to play catch up as I got a little behind.
M,T,W,Th this week I did a little more than the minimum daily average. Now I'm all caught up.
Each day at lunch I have done 4 back to back sets of:
Jog .5 miles
5 pullups
25 deadlifts
25 pushups
25 situps
25 pushups
25 deadlifts
25 pushups
25 situps
With only a few seconds between exercises and 2 min between sets, it takes me about 45 min total and is
300 push
200 deadlift
200 sit
20 pull
And 2 miles jogged and I end with .25 walked for cool down.

DONE!
6000 push
3000 sit
3000 squat
150 pull
20 Miles
Gonna take a few days rest and recovery before deciding what to do next.
Was hoping to get 10K pushups in Jan but 6K kicked my butt (shoulders).
I may just repeat the month keeping pushups at 6K and abs at 3K and add double the pullups, add a dedicated heavy day on legs weekly, add resistance band bicep curls and posterior delt flys (starting to get a little disproportionate), and more mileage (maybe up to 30).
