Since you aren't sure what else you will enjoy as a workout, I wouldn't commit to anything new just yet.

I would work really hard on diet, keep doing spin 3x a week, and try to do something active for 30 minutes each day you don't have spin.....walking, football, basketball, hell even yard work can count, especially here in the summer.

Keep working hard and enjoy the small changes that add up over time.

To whoever said eat for fuel, totally agree. Whenever I get into running a good bit, I can only do it when I eat right. If I eat like crap the night before my next days run is horrible.

To expand a bit more on the exercise, think of weight lifting and machines differently. Don’t go about it as heavy lifting if your goal is to lose weight. You also can’t spot train to lose in certain areas. The weight loss will come from diet. But you can get your body more toned with exercise than with diet alone. Think whole body exercise. The interval training exercise classes are great. You’re generally using light weights or body weight exercises and switching it up. Maybe do that the days you don’t do a spin class.

Basically, anything to get your body moving and working will help lose weight faster. Focus on longer workouts at lower intensity rather than fast higher intensity. Walking can be great. Take a 30-45 minute walk every night. It is easy on your body but moving will burn more than nothing.

Cut out fast food, fried foods, beer, and soft drinks and I bet you lose 20 pounds in less than 6 months.

Rice and potatoes are not evil. If you count carbs and calories in a legit program, you can still have them.

What’s your body fat percentage and waist measurement? You need to check these... water test or bodpod are the more accurate tests.

As DeafJam said, rice and potatoes in and of themselves aren’t evil, but the amount you consume is important. I would eliminate alcohol completely though. They are empty calories.

As a couple other people have said. Look at food as fuel. A bit under 2 years ago I stepped on a scale for a doctor's appointment. I'm 6'1" and I was 343 pounds. I was completely disgusted with myself. I put myself on a 1200 calorie a day diet, and started walking and working out. I stepped on the scale this morning and weighed in at 224 pounds. A ton of people don't like them but I find my Fitbit to be a good motivator. I make sure to hit my step goal at least 5 days a week and I get at least 30 continuous minutes of jogging/walking in each day. I also try to workout 3-4 times a week. About 6 months ago I eased up on the diet on weekends. The pounds are still coming off but obviously not as quickly. Even when I do eat worse on the weekends, I find myself not enjoying it as much. I can't eat nearly what I use to without feeling full to the point of being sick.

I don’t know about your spin class, but I much prefer resistance training to cardio.
I do all my cardio in 20-minute sessions, 3 times a week. 12 sets of burpees with 30 seconds rest in between each set. Sometimes burpees are alternated with running steps. It’s balls-to-the-wall, though.
I hate long drawn out cardio and shorter, high-intensity cardio is better for burning fat and preserving muscle, anyway.

I eat a lot of rice and steak. I'm naturally skinny and I count the total amount and manipulate as necessary.

Proportion is the bigger key and balancing vs calorie expenditure. Higher carbs, I just keep exercise intensity high and dial back carbs if I gain too much weight.

I have actually benefitted from simple digestion carbs in a regulated amount. There's a wide variety of things that work.

MyFitnessPal... track your calories consumed... losing weight is as simple as that ... consume less than you burn, and you’ll lose weight, about 1lb for every 3500 calorie deficit

Assuming you are staying at or under your calorie intake goal for the day, it really doesn’t matter what the foods you take in are, as far as weight loss is concerned it’s all about the calories

And spin is high calorie burn, so keep it up and track it on MFP... regular walking and jogging, while good for you, isn’t burning a ton of calories and won’t make much of a dent on weight loss relative to the effort and time spent. I think you’re good on exercise with spin, just start tracking calories on diet

Honestly stop eating shite for a 2-4 weeks and start walking. Then start spinning, it's a great exercise I would start with 2/3 classes a week and build from there.

You mentioned UFC. Go check either location out at Acadian or Sherwood. Great atmosphere and the workouts are great. They’ll help you out and show you around. Tell them Cody sent you in.
