Inflammatory Arthritis Help

I have medicine induced inflammatory arthritis where, unfortunately, there is not much I can do to help it (with drugs). I’m seeing ads for the massage guns and it got me wondering if massage guns, exercise, and/or other methods have worked for others to relieve pain and/or increase mobility. What’s TD’s thoughts on:
- Massage gun
- Exercises
- Other methods
NOTE: I have issues in just about every joint. Shoulders, wrists, hands, feet, knees, etc… I am on some meds that do not allow me to take drugs related to arthritis - as they will counteract the drugs I’m on. Tylenol helps with pain, but not mobility. Lastly, I walk a thin line. Moving and doing stuff does help. BUT, my feet get fatigued quick and my ankles kill me if I overdue it. So I have to be careful how hard I push.

Immunotherapy. Steroids mess with immunotherapy drugs/actions.

You need to see a OT to help you through therapeutic exercises that help but limit aggravation of Sx. Look into aquatic therapy or at least swimming in general in warmer temp water if that isn’t a contraindication for anything you have or any meds you’re on.
Are you able to use topical NSAIDs like Voltarin?

What I think could help - anti-inflammatory diet, fish oil, curcumin, collagen. Then for exercise, stretching, maybe swimming and sauna/steam room, then the resistance aspects will be dependent on range of motion/pain.

Thanks, I’ll definitely look into an OT and aquatic therapy. I love to swim, so that would be great.
We haven’t tried topical NSAIDS, but I will absolutely ask my Oncologist about it. Thanks!!

Thanks for the info. Before I started this particular immunotherapy, I was on daily fish oil, tumeric, prednisone, and diclofenac. That regime mostly helped with pain, but not range of motion.
I haven’t done a good job of a non-inflammatory food diet. I haven’t done bad, but definitely not strict. Maybe now’s the time to do better.

CBD may also help
I tried the CBD topical stick. Unfortunately I never noticed much improvement other than the cooling feeling.

Something else that is beneficial for overall health and would be be doable even in circumstances of pain and restricted movement is deep breathing. It could also be done in conjunction with vacuum exercises to target muscles that would be difficult to work with mobility restrictions.

There are some mushrooms that may be beneficial. Based on the context, it seems Chaga could have the most potential. Others that could help - Reishi, Shiitake, Maitake, Cordyceps, Lion's Mane, Turkey Tail.

And I meant PT not OT.
Though OT could potentially help with daily living tasks. PT will be better for energy management and pain management during flare ups.

What about edible CBD/THC?
All depends on how it messes with my current meds to be honest. I’ll ask!

Ha! I have an established PT already so I was going to start there anyway. Good call though.

I take fish oil, flaxseed oil, and turmeric for my arthritis. Plus drink lots of fluids. Dehydration makes it worse. In any case good luck and feel better.

Have you asked specifically about using NSAIDs? No prednisone is certainly understandable but I don’t see a clear reason to avoid nsaids, especially if they significantly improve your quality of life

Good call on dehydration. That’s definitely something I can work on. Thanks!

I definitely will. I’m on a clinical trial that required me to get off of all drugs in the short term. Because it’s immunotherapy I’ll also need to avoid certain drugs in the future as well. NSAIDs could definitely help, and I’ll definitely ask. Thanks!
