I did a very high rep chest workout Saturday which is highly unusual for me and since then, my dominant shoulder is really bothering me. When I lift it past a 90 degree to my armpit, it's a very sharp pain in my anterior delt. Any stretches/tips on that?

First is see a doctor. There are a ton of little things in your shoulder that can get effed up.

If you're clear to stretch, etc, banded dislocations were excellent for my shoulder mobility.

Until a doc, ice and anti inflammatory is about all you can do.

I've been doing ice/heat. Will see a doc if it doesn't go away in a couple days. Hoping its minor.

Good luck, hope it goes away soon.

If it resolves, a second strategy I've done is to always work a pressing movement with a pulling movement in the same plane. Flat bench with row, OHP with pullup, etc, including warmup.

I have found this beneficial in injury prevention in shoulders/hips because you warm up the full ROM of the joint.

See a doctor first but sounds like too much interior rotation. Creating an arch in the bench can help prevent that. When your elbow goes past the bench when lying down, it's too much and increases the ROM.

IMO bench should have an arch. To get more chest recruitment, use DB flyes.

I have had pain in my shoulders that comes and goes for years. My strength and flexibility are never compromised so I keep on trucking. I find that it flares up whenever I don’t work my rotator cuff.

That being said, I suggest seeing a doctor. What I do isn’t exactly smart, but I know my limits.

Well, if you didn't feel any tweak, pull, or tear during your workout chances are you just have some inflammation. Take a lacross ball and start rolling in down your arm front and back. If you hit a spit that feels like a knot with a knife jabbed in it then thats probably your priblem. You could have knots in your tricep or bicep tendon that is causing u pain at the connection in your shoulder. Crossover Symmetry has a good program for shoulder health. But before you buy tbeir stuff, stretching, rolling, and other mobility exercises can do wonders. Good luck, hope it's not serious

Likely it’s just a muscle and not a joint problem. If so, it will go away with time and that’s that. But perhaps you should rethink your routine or at least your form.
Bench presses are an inefficient chest exercise where the shoulders and triceps are limiting factors. Some folks stress stretching at the bottom which, to my mind, puts too much stress on the shoulder. When you go back to benching, do short arc benches and flyes rather than those shoulder killers Arnold used to do. And consider pullovers and dips to replace or supplement benches. Just a thought.

This is what I'm thinking is the problem. I have little to no arch in my bench and my elbows break bench level by a good margin. It's feeling a little better today after stretching a good bit. Taking a long weekend for a trip to Gattlinburg, so it'll be a good break where I'm not tempted to hit the weights.

Definitely going to try the push/pull. Thanks

That's a good strategy also.

I started having very minor soreness in my dominant shoulder a couple of months ago and started to feel concerned when it was still there a month later. Lifting heavy and high reps didn't seem to make it any worse.

It's starting to feel back to normal now. Not sure if it was minor arthritis but hoping that's the end of it. I've been lifting weights for 25 years and never had even the slightest shoulder soreness until recently.

I'm going to have to see a doctor myself.

Shoulder area hurt one day. I don't think it's cuff because I had improvement and can move it around. I think it may be a nerve that finally became a bigger problem for me.

Affects strength a bit because it feels weird. Tingling in last two fingers on hand and pain through outside of upper arm. Discomfort in neck that I've almost always had on that side. Seems like one long nerve connection.
