Probably my worst exercise along with military press

6’ 200, 26 years old and can knock out about 8 with zero swinging and a slow eccentric

If I did them like CrossFit style I may be able to get 12-15

Well, about a week and a half in and finally sore enough to need a day off. I expected to be sore sooner but I did hit the pull-up bar at the park for a few weeks last summer so maybe that helped the transition.

I've been reading all the replies (thanks ) and am reading into the suggestions. Right now I'm reading Convict Conditioning and am finding it pretty helpful and simple.

I'm not sure if I've increased my max reps yet because I've just been hitting it 5-6 times a day and experimenting with different forms. Obviously no visually noticeable progress yet but my chest and shoulders have tightened way up already.

Anyways, figured I owed a reply after 3 pages of responses. Thanks guys.

eta- added 'before' pic to op to track my progress. Probably post an update in a month or two.

I’m a woman so - 0

It would be nice to work up to be able to do about 2 or 3

In high school when I lifted weights consistently I could do like 5-8 - but that was a while ago

You could easily do them if you put your mind to it and put the work in.

It doesn't take long. My wife (38) also started doing them and in a week she's gone from just hanging with her chin over the bar to be able to do a single chin-up. She'll probably be knocking out 5 by the end of the month.

Awesome, she’s about the same age as me - so that gives me a little hope! Lol!

I will go down to the park today and see what I can do (probably just hang)

Age 45

I can do one set of 15-18 full range of motion.

If I did them like I see some people doing (1/3 range of motion), I could probably do 30+.

Yeah, I don't do that much weight training. Well, any really. Mostly just pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, squats, and running. I try to fit in long hikes with a ruck when I can.

This is what I'm moving to. I'm getting away from weights. I may squat 135/225 every now and then until I get better at pistols and do cleans just for explosion purposes, but no need to do anything else but bodyweight.

Agree to a point. I'm just really learning the value of functional strength presently, and although I can throw weight around it has me self reflecting. Especially with the new year/reset coming and all.
