Has anyone used HSA to buy home gym equipment?

Just came across this option. It looks like you need a letter from a doctor but it doesn’t look hard to get.
TrueMed
There are also some sites like this one that you can buy straight from with your HSA and not have to worry about reimbursement. They even get you a doctors letter it seems.
The only brand they had for cages and plates was Nike but I’m sure there are other sites.

On second viewing it looks like you can’t pay with your HSA card and need to be reimbursed which sucks a bit but still worth it if I can pull it off.

If you have the time, find a source on alibaba. Great equipment for great prices.

I would love to but that place intimidates the hell out of me. Any tips? I always feel like I’m gonna get scammed.

I've bought from multiple sources. Nothing to be scared about. Lol

Who's your HSA provider?
I got a letter of medical necessity for a cold plunge through crates health. My FSA provider at the time approved it and reimbursed me.
Worth a shot.

Are you retired? If not, fund the purchase with cash flow.
You can let the funds in the HSA grow and pay yourself back years down the road completely tax free.
You can literally purchase it now, and pay yourself back 20yrs in the future without any negative ramifications.

For the downvote, I’d love to know why it’s better to use HSA now vs later assuming the original poster isn’t retired.

I have used FSA for a rower and a bench. Some companies will take the card and some will require reimbursement.
The concept c2 rower I had to get reimbursed for but the Freak Athlete bench, I was able to purchase with my FSA card.
I went through TrueMed for both purchases. It was easy and they are quick to get a doctor to provide a letter of medical necessity.

Personally, i'd much rather keep my HSA funds invested than use them for something like this. You can use them for exercise equipment, but if you're that strapped for cash, I probably wouldn't be raiding an HSA for them, probably not a true need.

Yep. All of this.

I’ll chime in for the sake of offsetting the down votes. The HSA is more powerful than a Roth IRA. Would you take Roth money to buy gym equipment? Probably not, so don’t do it with HSA money. I see why this may seem like a good idea to you, but fight the urge and let the money grow, OP.
