I wouldn't mind taking it to Red Rock Canyon or Mt. Charleston for some mountain biking action, but for the most part I am looking for a bike I can ride in the streets with for a different kind of cardio other than running.

I got a Trek Marlin 5 from a local shop a few years back. Solid entry level bike IMO. Think I paid $475 for it.

We got my wife a Specialized Crossroads about 5 years ago for $500. It's held up very well and it's a nice bike to ride. Very sturdy. I ride it sometimes for a change and I really like it.

Jamis Coda. Not for trails, though.

Not trying to hijack the thread,

My son is having a hard time finding a new bike. He’s at about a $600 budget and wants a daily bike to pedal back and forth to Tech. He lives about 3 miles from campus. All the bike shops are out of inventory.

I’ve been looking recently for one for my son and prices are through the roof due to a shortage. New Marlin 5s are almost $600. We’re looking at a GT Pro Aggressor from Dicks for $480. Components are good enough for what he needs and the frame is solid.

Good luck. Bikes are like TP mid COVID right now.

I bought a specialized rockhopper hard tail with lockout on the front last year and immediately had the shop put gravel type tires on it-i consider it a hybrid.....HOWEVER, i ended up riding basically 100% on the road and the gearing is just all wrong for that. All rookie mistakes....wish i would have just gotten a pure road bike

Get on Craigslist and buy a second hand name brand mountain bike from the 90’s to early 00’s, swap the knobby tires for some 26 x 2.1/2.3 gravel or road tires = best commuter bike ever.

Get some urban street cred and get a steel single speed or fixed gear. low maintenance and built for the beatings.

State Bicycle

I have a 4130 Chromoly that's about 6 years old and I've have around 2,500 miles on mine with zero problems. I've done 3 MS150's on it and use it as my daily beater. Bought it for a little under $500 but upgraded the saddle and tires. I get more comments and compliments on this bike than my other rides.
