This just popped up on my Facebook feed.
There's really nothing to it.

Yeah, it looks goofy, but so does shite like pushing a sled down my street. I also do kettlebell farmers walks which look stupid, too.

Schwartz himself admitted that there was a potential embarrassment factor to be overcome even with doing the standard Heavyhands Walk itself. Though, he thought it wouldn’t be a factor we’d have to contend with in the 21st century, as he was confident that Heavyhands wasn’t a fad but would instead become a permanent, commonplace fixture of the fitness landscape. “The nice thing about social embarrassment phenomena is that . . . they disappear as fast as they emerge,” Schwartz predicted back in 1987. “When people discover that the odd movements associated with pump ‘n’ walk produce exhibitable muscular rips and cuts, the embarrassment will vanish. You can count on it.”

I’ve carried 5 pound dumbells to do curls while walking and have worn myself out. I’m thinking I may try 2 pounders and curl continuously. look silly perhaps but I’ll be happy.

We do a lot of silly looking workouts, why should this be any different? It's effective, burns extra calories, etc. No drawbacks!

I’ve mentioned this before here. But there is a dude that’s 70+ that does this near me. He’s fricking JACKED. I stopped him and talked to him one day. He carries 5 lbs dumbbells and does a curl/press routine with them for an hour plus. Does this 5 days a week.

I read the article, great find by the way, it's basically walking while mimicing a Cross County Sking motion. If you have ever done any cross country sking you know what a great workout it is. I am going to buy some 2 pounders to get started.

That's awesome, man. Update this thread in a month or so. I might grab a few myself. If I'm gonna go walking on my off day, why not do this?

I plan on starting this week. I try to do carries once to twice a week anyway so I am doing this instead.
Have you done any cross country sking?

That's great!
No, I have not. Living in flatlands, I've only skied a few times, no cross country for sure.

not only is it good for the pump but they are also really good for shoulder health. Heavier KB walks are really good.
overhead waiter style is really good for couple things
1) causes an almost blood flow restriction to the shoulders allowing a huge pump and better muscle building
2) helps shoulder health and builds stability in the overhead position and in the rotator cuff
3) burns way more calories

If you ever get the chance try it out. If you do, don't dress like you are going Alpine sking. You will be shucking clothes along the trail. You're going to sweat your balls off.
