So the fattys can get their buffet on, but those of us who take care of our health continue to suffer?!

Well it's not exclusively fatties that go to restaurants... So you have a bad point.

No crap. But what is more likely to spread disease: going somewhere with exposed food you’re going to consume, or going somewhere where stuff is constantly being sanitized throughout the day?

Ideally both are sanitizing throughout the day.
The virus isn't spread through consuming food, it's spread primarily by large respiratory droplets, which come mostly come from coughing, sneezing, and breathing hard. So in that respect, gyms are going to spread the virus very easily.

And all it would take is 1 cook to spread it to the entire restaurant.

Seems to me the odds are much lower, but it is a risk. People have been eating takeout this whole time though, which is no different from in-house service in that regard.

This is killing me literally here in MS...
I love going to the gym but I just can’t get motivated to do a home workout.

Gyms have had sanitation practices in place, like restaurants too, but neither really made the effort to this extent to prevent spreading of germs and shite during flu season and what have you. If you go outside and get sick during a pandemic then you have no one to blame but yourself. You made a decision, and there’s no realistic expectation that any business can keep you from catching something. I’ll sign the waiver, just open up. Having said all that, if you sick, then stay home.

Exactly. If I’m willing to risk getting sick, let me workout! Gyms could even do scheduling, where there is fewer people at a time.

That's not ready the point though, is it? I'm not arguing that gyms should be closed, and I'm definitely not arguing that gyms should be held liable if illness is spread within the gym. I'm just pointing out OPs logical fallacies, and why government officials may ultimately choose to keep closed for the time being.
Restaurants are already cooking and serving people, albeit to-go. To top that off, the biggest risk of infection with this particular virus is respiratory, so while there is a risk on surfaces (and presumably food) That risk stays basically the same. Gyms, particularly class-oriented gyms, are hotbeds of contamination for illnesses of all sorts. In the case of this virus, people are breathing heavy in a gym for 45m-1hr each. It'll be extremely easy to spread in a gym.

I agree that the virus would be much easier spread in a gym than restaurant.
In a restaurant, the staff can wear gloves and masks to prevent spreading something they may have. Customers sit at one table.
In a gym, people can’t workout in masks and gloves. Sweat is everywhere. One person can come in contact with 10-15 pieces of equipment.

It's a joke that Alabama will lag behind with restaurants opening on the 15th.

Yes they could

My gym has a strict policy of you must wipe down equipment with sanitary chemicals after you use it, or you get booted out. That was even before COVID-19.
One cook or waitress can come in contact with a lot of customers' food too.

Pretty sure those rubber medical gloves will rip during most weight training sessions.
Much easier to fully wipe down a table after a group leaves than it is to constantly clean gym equipment in between users.

That's what hand sanitizer is for

Not when the users wipe the equipment down themselves. And have you seen the rags that restaurants reuse over and over to wipe down tables? Or the menus that they never wipe down?

Covid is spread through sweat?

Pretty easy to increase the sanitation standards with the rags, and throwaway paper menus would be a quick resolution. I understand it’s an additional cost, but it is what it is.
I don’t trust every single gym user to thoroughly clean equipment after every use.
I can’t wait to get back in the gym, but I don’t think it’s as easy to keep sanitized as some are suggesting.
