re: Fitness Tracker
I agree. I have a Fenix 5x plus and it has been hammered for 2 years and keeps up. I wear it everyday. Do everything with it. I love all the info I get from it.

The Garmin app is fantastic. Especially with my fitness pal linked. Also I love running against my ghost from a previous run. Really makes me push myself when I try to beat my own times each run.

How accurate do you think the Heart rate tracking and calories burned during workouts is on the forerunner?

Just make sure your heart rate zone boundaries are set properly to get a more accurate calorie burn.

Out of the box, at least my device didn't automatically set my heart rate zones, so it assumed my Zone 5 was anything over 100 BPM which is ridiculous, so my daily calories burned was way too high. Once I fixed that it was more accurate. I'd say it slightly overestimates calories, but not too much. You're not going to get anything exact anyway so its good to know a ballpark.

It said my calories burned over the last week was 19,007 or 2,715 calories per day. I think thats a little high. I think in reality its probably closer to 2,600 but maybe I am wrong. Like I said you will never know for sure so it depends on your goals. If you are trying to lose weight I'd err on the side of caution and assume its over estimating.

Probably not the best person to ask, but I appreciate the heart rate zones particularly over Fitbit (only other tracker I’ve owned). Makes it much easier to see improvement over time for running. Friend of mine is who got me to get one. He does triathlons and iron mans and has one of the higher forerunner models. He’s used a whoop as well and thinks the heart rate monitoring is very solid.

As far as workouts, it shows me about 100 calories lower for a solid workout than my Fitbit, again only real comparison I have. I lean more to believe the Garmin estimation. I have not yet mastered true workout tracking because I don’t take the time to manually enter all of my exercises, sets, reps, and weights. I do my workout and pull up my app to “add activity” and input my start time and duration. Hour and 15 minute workout is 465 calories for me according to my last workout.

Didn’t buy the watch to track sleep though. I’m sure tracking sleep would be much better suited for another product.

re: Fitness Tracker
I was happy with my basic Garmin Forerunner 35 for a couple of years.

Just updated to Garmin Venu.

LINK to Venu @ Garmin.com

This latest device has a bunch more pre-loaded activities and the display is so much better than the Garmin Vivoactiv models. Recommended!

Very happy with it so far.

re: Fitness Tracker
I was given an Apple watch for xmass. It does just fine as a fitness tracker. Gives a map with my heart rate as I MB around my farm. Same doing GSLP in my gym. And quite a bit more when I bother to look.

However, what motivates me is the smell of the mats and the metal plates smashing together. The lift %’s going up. My bikes. The farmers walks. Etc, etc....not my watch.
