Does anyone here have any experience with what apparently are known as "exertional," or exercise, headaches? Apparently they occur after fairly strenuous exercise, often the day after the exercise. If anyone has had such experience, have you found anythng (medicine, hydration, etc.) helps? Apologies if this is the wrong board.
Thank you.

I had one happen last year. It repeated a few days later and was shorter lived. Got a workup by a neurologist to rule out a vascular blockage and stopped the exercise for a month or so. It actually happened during sex once and I had to stop. The wife was shocked I had the headache for a change. Once the MRI/MRA came back clean, went back to exercise and it has not reoccurred.

The vast majority of headaches are due to dehydration. That’s probably what’s happening.

American college of radiology say exertional or sex related headaches are reason to get an MRI.

Had them very temporarily. Was very disabling. Couldn't do anything at all. Sexual activity of all kinds made them worse. Took Naprosyn and that helped until it went away on it's own.

ETA: considered MRI and MRA, but symptoms dissipated quickly. This was 5-8 yrs ago. Would have liked to have seen imaging though.

They are usually due to cerebral vasculitis and are a typical early warning sign for a cerebral aneurysm.

You may want to have a CT scan performed and schedule a visit to your neurologist.

I had them really bad a couple years ago but not during sex. Turns out it was a certain pre workout formula that was causing my blood pressure to spike big time during a workout.

Have you been on a long flight recently? I experienced exertion headaches for a few weeks after my flights to China a few years ago each way. Granted, those were 13-15 hr flights.

The thing that helped the most was drinking a ton of water. Like eight 16-oz glasses a day prior to lifting. Once I started doing that, they subsided.
