Yes, although some of it depends on what you mean by work. It's dietary protein, but it's just dietary protein.

Depends on what you mean by work.

If you are thinking your gunna go from average joe to looking like Ronnie Coleman by drinking protein, then no.

If you are talking using it as a supplement to diet to meet your bodies protein needs, then yes

It's one form of protein. It's best to get a variety, but whey protein helps to get the last 20% or so you need to build muscle.

Work for what? It's good quality food. Your question makes no sense.

To gain muscle in conjunction with weight training? Yes, a well timed protein shake is essential. Whey or Whey Isolate are generally the most bioavailable protein powders.

You don't necessarily need one postworkout if you have enough protein available.

That said, for most people, it's hard to eat the amount of protein necessary for ideal muscle growth without powder. That's where powder is at its best, as a non-filling way to top off.

I drink a shake postworkout, and a lot of it is that I'm not really super hungry post workout. It lets me get down good protein after a workout easier than if I did whole food.
