Having a debate. I have found evidence of both increases and decreases online but I know posters like 777 are well versed in locating studies.

Anyone have anything to link or add?

**This debate was about dipping and vaping not about cigarettes or cigars.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=nicotine%20effects%20on%20testosterone%20levels

Pubmed link for your search. A cursory look at some of the research seems to point that nicotine use decreases testosterone and increases metabolism of testosterone in the liver. Funny thing, smoking, seems to down regulate testosterone production and keeps it down regulated even when people quit.

I didn't read enough into the research to see how much the average testosterone decrease was, or what nicotine dose is needed for said percentages. With that being said, I've known a lot of big strong dudes that dipped multiple tins a day. My one buddy uses Zyn for focus and mental clarity and he's a pretty stout and strong dude too.

My takeaway is that, Nicotine most likely decreases Testosterone production. But anecdotally speaking, it's probably not by enough where you'll see a big enough difference to matter.

I would tend to believe that nicotine use is highly correlated to lower levels of physical activity and other health issues that correlate to lower testosterone.

I've used smokeless tobacco for 40 years and still get a hard on without the benefit of Viagra. So there's that....

Exactly. I dipped for 15 years, and ironically quit while I was in the Army. I never felt like it effected my performance at all.

As I said earlier, studies show that it does decrease it, but I think the changes are negligible.

I am not saying it doesn't. I am in pretty good shape for an old dude and I have a couple of cigars a week. Actually when I competed in bodybuilding, I had one every night - several years ago. I think like anything, it's about moderation.
