Comparing caffeine to testoterone therapy?

I'm a 40+ male and feel like I'm in about the best shape of my life. Energy throughout the day is fine, typically get good sleep, and don't feel that much different than when I was in my 20s.
I had my testosterone levels checked a few months ago and it was a little outside of the low range. I haven't done anything about it, other than ask a few questions on this site.
I don't drink coffee much, although have gotten in the habit of having an espresso about once/week and also (for the past few years) have a Pre-Workout before lifting weights about once/week. I feel that I have much more energy than usual for several hours and get much more done at work, chores at home, etc. I actually now plan the more challenging work for the afternoons after taking a Pre-Workout on lunch break workouts. This caffeine 'boost' feels like more energy than I ever had in my 20s-30s.
Just curious for those of you that have taken Test therapy (i.e. not OTC) to compare with the caffeine boost. I assume it's not as immediate and more of a long term thing. Anything else worth mentioning? No comparison at all?

No comparison at all.
Test hardens your muscles, trims body fat, greater labido and greater energy levels throughout the day but nothing like caffeine. Your muscles also recover much quicker. And because the recovery process is so good your sleep is much better as well. If you don’t workout much or are a naturally aggressive person it can make you a little edgier.

Caffeine is a CNS stimulant, test isn't.
I've never done TRT, but love the caffeine. Caffeine is well researched as a CNS stimulant and 100% works.
The effects from TRT are entirely different.

TRT, when done conservatively by a licensed physician, will help but is not a big game changer when it comes to strength training. Bumping you up from low to mid range overall T will not turn you into an Olympia contender. It will help with your overall health, sex drive, energy, assist with lean body mass to a smaller degree, etc.
Caffeine is a stimulant. When used in moderation it is a good pick me up before a workout, shown to have fat burning qualities, etc. You can build up a tolerance to the dose you start out with (one cup of coffee might have around 100mg of Caffeine), so many end up drinking more coffee as this happens and building up an even higher tolerance. I would try to take a week off every so often from stimulants just to keep this from happening.

Definitely comparing apples to oranges. Preworkouts often contain several ingredients that increase energy and can help improve focus (caffeine, huperzine, tyrosine, etc). Test doesn't give energy, per se, but it helps avoid fatigue. Of course, TRT can come with a slew of other benefits, as mentioned (adding muscle mass, body recomp, etc), but it's not something to just go out on a whim and try. Based on what you wrote, even though your levels may be lower than normal, you don't exhibit signs of low testosterone. Good diet and training regimen go a long way in how you feel. IMO, unless the effects of low T are really getting to you, I would not recommend even considering it. Once you start, you are committing yourself to it for a long time. Sure you can stop and take HCG and do a proper PCT, but you're not guaranteed that you will start producing testosterone even at the level you are at currently.

I take weekends off and this seems to keep my tolerance reasonable.

Talk to your Dr. About TRT before you try it. It may swell your head up over time.
