Beginning to finally build my home gym, but I'm starting off pretty minimal until I can get a rack.

Everything will be outside, but I plan on having an outdoor box to store all KBs and DBs.

I have a 12x20 concrete patio area in the back of my yard that I plan on putting some horse stall mats on.

Few questions:

1) What is the best way to keep the horse stall mats from moving around? I don't really want to bolt them down. Are they heavy enough to not slide around if I'm doing burpees on them?

2) What KB weights do you consider to be essential? I currently have 2-53 lbs and 2-26 lbs in my Rogue cart. I'm thinking of adding 1-80 lb for heavier stuff. But not sure.

3) E coat vs powder coat?

4) For future purposes, how well do the powder coated racks hold up outside? Anybody have knowledge of this? I've seen pictures of the rigs outside, so I know some people do it.

5) Rogue has lots of sandbag options. Anyone have recs on the best options?

6) Anybody built their own box jumps? Plans? Dos and don'ts?

get 2x4 mending plates and put at each corner. this will tie all mats together and they wont really move

i consider 36lbs(1 poods), 70 or 72(2 poods) and then if you want to go heavier

90lbs (2.5 poods)
108lbs (3 poods)

but all depends on what you are using them for, I personally use them alot in place of DBs so i have lots of pairs.

i have powder coated KBs and ecoat on the deep dish....100% the ecoat. the powder scratches like crazy

they hold up pretty good. if you are worried too much, either get a stainles or look at getrxd galvanized rack. personally i do not think you will have any problems what so ever with just powder coating.

honestly the rogue bags are awesome but i would look at other cheaper options. sandbags in general are awesome. I would make your own in the 50, 75lbs increments. then get a 25lbs & 50lbs slam balls for throwing and ballistic movements. from there get 100, 150 and possiblly the throwing one.

very easy to do, just google. i believe end of 3 fitness has some good plans.

I think if I was building an outside gym I would get one of those yokes that double as a squat rack. Get the most of having stuff outside. Rep has a new one coming out with all kinds of stuff on it. And rogue has theirs that you can expand.

although I kinda like the tall rigs for rings and rope climbs as well...

They won't slide around. Those thigns are a bitch to move around. If they don't move for horses...

I have 44 and 70 plus a pair of 35# Thompson Fatbells which I freaking love.

I don't have any equipment outside, but in New Orleans by the lake so it wouldn't hold up for me. As to plyoboxes, those are pretty easy to build, just 6 rectangles of 3/4" plywood (cabinet grade with a plywood sawblade makes your cuts prettier). Some people brace theirs inside, but I find it unecessary for the most part.

I would recommend a pull up and dip bar.

Outdoor gym in the humid south won’t be forgiving, but gotta make it work if you can’t do inside or garage.

Why not build your rack out of treated lumber? There are great plans on the interwebs.
