Backstory:
6’-4” tall
Heavy weight 374
Current weight 250 (going on 2 years)

1 Rep max
Bench 315 lbs
Squat 260 lbs
Deadlift 275 lbs

I need to get my squat/deadlift up. Do go heavy more or lower weight and more reps?

Not much info to go on here. You should provide your current program (number of times per week you're doing these, weight/reps, intensity, progress, etc) to get advice on what may need to change.

I guess due to who I was surrounded by growing up but I find these numbers almost unfathomable.

A 250lb man that can bench 3 plates can’t pick up more than 275? Or squat more than 260.

Are you cripple or did you just regain control of your legs?

We would need a little more background on your training history. Also, any injuries that you have to train around. Age.

Training hard for the last 5 years and have hit a wall vs just started lifting 6 months ago and just need more time training. These two scenarios require very different programs in order to see progress.

Congrats on the weight loss!

Need to see your program and your diet. Even then, can’t know what your weaknesses are without seeing you lift. The simple answer is that the only way to get stronger is to lift weights and eat. Are you progressively overloading? Do your accessory lifts actually help your main lifts? Are you eating and sleeping enough?

Typically heavy weight and lower reps but as others have set it depends a lot on your training history. The fact that you're 250 lbs and your squat and DL are so low makes me wonder if you have issues with your muscle recruitment patterns. You might just need to spend some time on mobility work, posture, and lifting form

Well being the size that he was, it probably wasn’t very conducive to getting into the positions for those lifts. You sound like you’ve never been to a gym. There’s plenty of people who don’t lift half the weight he does and everyone starts somewhere. Way to be helpful, though.

Forgive me, I’m sorry if it came off as crass.

I would need to see a video of your form, but considering that you can bench 3 plates, tells me that you know something about training because no one is born benching 3 plates.

I feel like I can almost guarantee that you can squat 315 and dead 315 right now with some simple fixes.

That’s what I meant by unfathomable.

Like it doesn’t make any sense unless you aren’t disclosing something.

Is this dude going to respond?

There’s more to this story

This is an albatross in my book.

Definitely need to be squatting more than your bench. Do you have a workout buddy or are you lifting by yourself? I don’t like to go heavy squatting if I’m working out alone for safety reasons.

Ha I don’t know him. Maybe he found out what he needed to elsewhere.
