Specialized Sirrus

It's a hybrid bike - can ride on the pavement and some light trails. Fatter tires...can go up and down curbs. Regardless, by a hybrid for your first bike.

Need a little more info. Where are you riding (road, gravel road, trails in the woods, etc.)? How much do you expect to get into it? If you are doing the equivalent of running 2 miles on a bike, you can get by with a lower end bike. If you are planning to ride for 2+ hours (which is probably equivalent to running 8-10 miles), then you may want a "better" bike.

I live in north Dallas and there is a ton of streets and sidewalks I want to frequent. I would say I would ride the equivalent of 2-5 miles when I would go for a ride.

I second a Giant bike. Just bought my 1st road bike, not a Roam, a lowly Contend 3

A hybrid bike is probably in your wheel house for that. I'm not extremely familiar with that segment.

If you want to shop hard on the used market and can find a good hard tail mountain bike, that's a good option too. I've ridden my hard tail 30+ miles on paved trails, so it'll do the job. But a good MTB will be pricier than a hybrid. Plus you can get off road whenever you want.

I am a big fan of road bikes and gravel bikes, but unless you have your sights on a bit more in the future, cost shoots up quickly.

This guy in Dallas Old Guy Bikes restores old mountain-bikes and does a really good job. He resales them for $250-300 and he has some really sweet bikes. I've had him work on a couple of my bikes which is rare for me as I do my own wrenching most the time. He is a bit odd but not in a bad way.

I second the hybrid.

My wife got one and I got a rockhopper

We just ride on pavement a few miles at a time. Hers is so much more comfortable. It sits more upright.

Whatever you buy take it for a spin first and go w what is comfortable to you
