I don't have a GP anymore since he kept pushing statins on me. My cholesterol was in the high part of the range. It really tracks with eating like crap, it will be higher, eating cleaner, it is normal. But I've always rode that high range.

I've had the scans on my neck and thigh that are completely clear as well as CAC score of zero. Still he pushed for statins.

It's time to get some yearly bloodwork, but not sure the most cost effective place that will give me a full panel.

Any suggestions?

Define "pushed for statins".

Like... threatened to fire you as a patient if you said "No thank you"?

Kept harping on it at every appointment, browbeating you and demeaning you for not being on them?

Or simply saying "I really think you ought to be on a statin" and then that being that.?

If you like the GP and this is the only issue, heck, just let him send the prescription over and simply don't pick it up. No harm no foul.

I use Fitomics but it requires a subscription and unless you’re drawing frequently probably not worth it.

I just ran across this site today and their prices are incredible.

My Dr wanted to put me on statins but I've been working hard diet-wise to get it down myself. It fluctuates and I think most of it is simply genetics.

Doctors say cholesterol is really bad. Others out there dispute it.

We talked about diet and he could see that my numbers were about the same year over year. I even showed him older results that were in line with the current ones. Asked for the CAC test and still wanted me to go on a statin with a score of zero. That tells me that even with high end of the normal range numbers, I have no buildup, therefore minimal risk.

Also, I asked for a pulmonary referral which he flat out refused to give me.

Whenever I started asking to check testosterone, if first statement was that sometimes insurance doesn't pay for that. I appreciate the info, but not what I asked.

Just seemed like his first priority was churning me out and not attending to my questions in a regular scheduled yearly checkup.

I haven't had a chance to look around. I would really prefer one that specializes in active people. Preferably one that is active also and understands people that workout. I feel too many doctors just look at numbers without taking into account the individual and what they do day to day.

Where are you? Someone here will be close by, so they'll be able to recommend a PCP.

Yep. Also LabCorp

Also request to have your homocysteine's and C-Reactive proteins checked. These two simple blood test can alert you medical provider to deeper issues.

IDK why some medical doctors are being jackasses when a patient request addition tests.
Its your life and your health. If you are paying for it, why should they care?

I guess they think you are questioning their medical knowledge and integrity.

You are in the DFW metropolis. I am sure you can find an enlightened PCP that will address your health concerns.

I am in the same boat you are in. My good ole Doctor that I have been going to for years will soon be retiring and I have been looking for a new PCP.

I went to a new Doc this past Feb and he was somewhat of a jackass. I am in NELA, West Monroe area. I am trying to decide if I want to go back to him after the first of the coming year for my annual wellness check.

Anywho, you are wise to avoid the use of statins. They are garbage, some think that they may be a cause of Alzheimer's. IDK really know. Do you own research.

If you are concerned about cholesterol, look into this book. Its very eye-opening.

You can pretty much order any lab test you want on Private MD labs.

Pick whatever you want checked, and it will send you to lab corp or quest. In and out in 5 minutes
