Been in Ketosis the last 12 days: HRV has plummeted. Thoughts?

In shape, 33 and have always worked out. My previous diet was healthy, but not keto
Decided to do a 60 day keto diet just to change things up. My HRV has gone from the mid 60s to low 40s consistently
Nothing else has changed. Resting heart rate still the same at about 55 BPM. Any thoughts?

Only thing I know about HRV is that 44 is average for a 55 year old man. I learned that with a quick google search.
So if you are 33 and have the HRV of a 55 year old, I'd say that's not great.
However I did read this on a similar google search:
Also learned from a quick google search are the top 8 ways to improve your HRV level:
Exercise & Train Appropriately.
Good Nutrition at the Right Times.
Hydrate.
Don't Drink Alcohol.
Sleep Well & Consistently.
Natural Light Exposure.
Cold Thermogenesis.
Intentional Breathing.
That's all I got, bro...

Over the past few decades, research has shown a relationship between low HRV and worsening depression or anxiety. A low HRV is even associated with an increased risk of death and cardiovascular disease. People who have a high HRV may have greater cardiovascular fitness and be more resilient to stress.

You don't know shite about HRV, clearly.
OP, you're body is going through a big adaption. Stay the course for at least 60 days, and you should see your HRV bounce back to baseline levels. It can take some people up to 6 months to become "fat adapted." In short, I wouldn't worry about it at this point.

Average for my age is right at 50
I’ve been in the mid 60s for over a year. Switched to keto, and have had an immediate consistent plummet into the 40s

I’m assuming genetically my HRV just will never be in the 100s like some. From a cardio and health standpoint, I’m not sure what else I could do, and 60s is as high as I could ever get it

What are the benefits to this?

Probably correct. If you got really into sleep hygiene if you aren't perfect if you are normally in the 60s you could probably raise it 10 points or so, but a 80% jump is very unlikely being that you are already fit.

I’ve touched 70s a few times, but very rare
I’ve also hit the 20s a few times after boozing hard

Right, so you don't know anything about it. Yet you felt the need to give bad information.

HRV is a big scale.

How are you measuring your HRV?
Posted on 7/23/21 at 11:22 pm to lsupride87
I have tried to learn the value of HRV, but it’s a lot of misinformation, hucksters selling apps and blogs, and not a lot of broad studies. HRV seems cool to look at for trends, and sleep patterns, but is their real data out their about it, or just an association with longevity? Seems like the new essential oils, and they say watches are not accurate.
Keto suppresses seizures, so could be suppressing one of your parasympathetic or sympathetic. But no one can tell you if that’s unhealthy. Alcohol lowers HRV, but it’s supposed to, and no one knows if that’s bad. Bad for cancer and liver, but artificially lowering HRV, who knows….
