Balancing fat loss and muscle gain

Old female fatty here. How do you balance fat loss with muscle gain? Or is it an either/or thing?
I have lost 25 lbs over the last 5 months, consistently exercising and eating in a calorie deficit but am now faced with the dreaded plateau. Do I have to decide to work on just fat loss or just muscle gain? Can you ever balance the two? Obviously my primary goal is weight loss, but I also want to be stronger and healthier.
Thanks!

fat loss is primarly from diet.
muscle gain comes from lifting heavy and eating in a caloric surplus.
what i suggest is getting on a legit lifitng program. I would suggest pen and paper strength app...grasshopper, house of the rising buns or lets get peachy. prolly best just to run them in that order.
eat in a 250-500 calorie caloric deficiet and make sure oyu get abotu 1g of protein for every lbs of bodyweight.
do that consistently....well you will make huge progress over time.
if you are at a plateau...you are not eating in a caloric deficit. up the daily steps or lower the cals...up to you.

Yes! My wife went through a similar plateau. She got it in her head that the scale had to continue to show lower numbers. This caused her to stress which lead to trouble.
If you have hit this plateau, my advice is to hide the scale and start using your clothes tell you the story. Keep up the exercise! You will see your body start to change composition which will lead to fat burn.
That number on the scale will change in a few weeks. Just don't look at it for a while. Keep up the good work!

This must be where I am. My clothing is definitely looser and I'm losing inches. I guess Patience is one of the hardest parts of this equation.

Same here. We've been on the same diet plan since October together, and after Christmas she felt like she was at a stall. I told her it was probably just holiday eating, and to keep on with it and ignore the scale. Now we're a couple weeks past that and she's started to see the pounds start to drop again. She claims she needs to lose another 15 lbs, but I just don't see it. Maybe 8-10 and focus on lowering fat and increasing muscle tone. She was a little sick over the holidays as well which can lead to stalls. She's going to get back on the workouts over the weekend.
