I have been off all diet sodas and anything containing non-calorie sweeteners (except Stevia) for four days. I had been having some nagging joint pain for awhile. Now the pain is all but gone. Wondering if this is real or only in my head. Anyone have any similar experiences? TIA

I've always been skeptical of the generalized "inflammation" self/web diagnoses. But since going keto (including a lot of very lazy keto periods) and IF, I've noticed very quick joint recovery (among other benefits).

There are a lot of inflammatory agents out there (sugar and chemical additives), and a lot of legit anti-inflammatory ones (curcumin, ceylon cinnamon, broccoli sprouts, etc.)

In 2015/16 ski season, I got in 20+ days, and by the last day I couldn't walk. Left inner knee hurt so badly, I couldn't sleep for a few days.

I took over a year off running and biking and missed 2016/17ski season.

This year I'm 43 and skied 21 days and ran before during and after skiing. No knee pain. And I've even been drinking a bit (trying to counterbalance it and stay moderate).

Inflammatory states are real. And I recommend everyone figure causes and remedies. I honestly believe a chronically inflammatory state + some very concentrated stress and an inability to exercise for a period led to my lymphoma. This is speculative and obviously completely anecdotal, but still informed by research and reading me body closely.

Non sequitur conclusion: Sustained aspertame doses cannot be good for you.

Thanks for the reply. Question, did you lose weight being on keto? If so could that be the cause of your knee improvement? I tried keto and lost five lbs in 8 days and I'm not big (6'1", 175lbs). Too many grandkids and my wife is not a fan so we dropped it. Anyway, did you have pain other than the knee? Mine was pretty much all over. I am 58 so there's that. Lol
Cheers

Been off artificial sweeteners since July. I was always skeptical but gave them up for gut microbiome purposes. 2 weeks in, went to a movie and had a big Fanta Zero. Within an hour had a headache and next few days I was bloated. That was enough proof for me. I still preach do what works for you, but I think there is valur to avoiding aspartame, and that is coming from someone who drank diet mountain dew like water for 20 years.

Inflammation absolutely can lead to the development of cancer, as well as heart disease and other diseases. Whether your lymphoma was the result can't really be proven, but it is definitely possible, especially if a factor of predisposition is also present.

Aspartame and other artificial sweeteners have been found to cause cancer at extremely high dose levels in experimental models, but it is my theory that too much of anything will lead to general inflammation thereby potentially increasing the development of many disease states.

Moderation is key.

I did the same thing (no diet soda or artificial sweeteners except Stevia) back in July. I was drinking several diet cokes a day, sweet and low in my coffee and eating foods with aspartame and sucrulose on the regular. I am still keeping it up because in my head I know that it's healthier. That said, I have not noticed any difference in the way I feel or look. Maybe my experience is unique.
