I used to do a little jump roping as a warmup for Wendler's N.O.V. (North of Vag) program.
I'd like to get a little more into it, perhaps even proficient in it. I hear its good cardio, but really I think it would be cool to jump rope like a boxer or like Buddy Lee (Youtube.)
Any pointers for a beginner? What kind of rope and maybe a beginners program?

its a skill, must be practiced constantly. do it as a warmup and as a nightly conditioning session. start with something like
30s on 30s off for 5 min or a tabata.
its goong to suck at first, eventually you will be better coordination over your feet and will become easier.
tips- start with a basic heavier plastic rope not a speed rope.
where shoes with a flat bottom like the crossfit shoes
focus on keeping your hands down and not letting them drift sideways shortening the rope
i am by no means an expert but this is what has helped me. just remember its a learned muscle pattern i.e. a skill. you must practice it like you would anything else.

I figured as much. I may keep a rope at the office and runs some 10 minute practice/drills every once in a while.

Just when I was "getting" double unders, I did something really painful in my left calf in round 4 of sets of 30. I let it rest a few weeks, then it happened again. I then let it rest over 6 weeks, and it happened on the third rep. I think I just have to give up on dubs.

There's a boxing channel on YouTube called Precision Striking. He has tons of beginner instructional videos including multiple jump rope videos.
The guy is a great teacher and passionate about what he does. Here's a link to one of them:

I started Crossfit about a month ago....former gym, tri, anything workout junkie....took 18 months off to start a company and felt like mush.
Fell in love with the jumprope part- really want to do double unders. Ordered a RPM Session 3.0 on Monday, it arrived yesterday. Knocked 100 out this morning.
They are expensive, but it’s something I will keep for a long time- super happy I made the investment. I can’t imagine ANY other rope being this good.
