I currently have a membership at Anytime fitness which I enjoy. I pay around $40 a month for it.

I see the Y has a promotion right now for a $0 joining fee and was thinking about the switch. With the Y it looks like I'll be paying $57 membership fee + $5 for the 24-hour access at the downtown Y.

I live in midcity so I'd be most likely splitting time with the downtown location and the new location on Foster when it's done being built.

Would it be worth the switch? I'm mainly looking for better facilities

What are you looking for facility wise? I go to the downtown one sometimes. I wouldn't say it's better than an Anytime unless it's that Anytime on River Rd that is tiny.

If it's not a location thing for you it's probably not worth switching.

Can't speak to what the new Y on Foster will look like, but the downtown Y is basically garbage. Equipment is awful. I'm not sure what you're looking for in 'facilities' but the downtown Y really doesn't have any. A locker room with showers that sometimes have hot water. I drive out of my way to avoid that Y (not that other Y's in the area are much better).

Manship off Perkins has tennis courts, lap pool, basketball, batting cages, your typical Y stuff. But that's further from you.

Mainly just a locker room with more than one shower. The new one looks like it will have pools and a gym which I would also use

I used to lift at the one by Siegen. I really liked it. It was never super busy and all the folks working out there were cool. I caught a bunch of fish in their lake, too.

The one downtown is definitely smaller than the others. They just replaced all their equipment about two years ago. So everything is pretty nice. For the smallish sized gym (I have seen smaller) I think they have a lot to offer. There are a few extras as well. The Foster location will be pretty big with a lot of extras. Other locations are definitely better than the downtown one. Except the one on Old Hammond near O'neil, that gym is not great at all. But if you are happy with where you are, you probably shouldn't switch. You can also go in and take a tour and see if you like it or not. They run those $0 signing fees often. Usually beginning of the year, in the summer, and whenever they need to boost membership. My suggestion is stay where you are and when the Foster location is up and running, then you can decide if you want to join or not. Pretty sure they will run the $0 sign up fee then as well.
