Will Fore Kids and Zurich announce an extension soon ? I know they are working on it. They have 2 years left on current deal .

Hopefully another 5 or so years. It’s a great tournament to attend.

I heard someone talking on the PGA channel on SiriusXM about sponsors. It seems that many of the sponsors are questioning how much return they get for their money. Now throw in the uncertainty of what is happening with LIV and many sponsors want to see how this plays out. It is not a good ROI on regular events and now the PGA wants double for the elevated events.
Zurich has done so much for charities in the New Orleans area. I know they like that good will and image that is gives them.
Without that, they cannot justify how much they spend each year on the tournament. The return just isn't there.

I can definitely see sponsorship being an issue going forward if there’s no merger.
I can see companies like Zurich feeling disrespected for all the money they’ve spent and then not being named an elevated event.
Regardless the zurich has grown a ton and is now pretty well attended and got a decent field without the elevated status.

I have heard the exact opposite of this. The sponsors don't want to be connected to an elevated event because they don't want to be on the hook for additional money. The large purses are making it harder to keep sponsors. In New Orleans, Zurich would never have to worry about that since our team event will never be elevated, making it more likely they will do an extension.

They need to adjust the schedule for a better event. The PGA screwed NOLA when they took it out of the week before the Masters. It was a primo event when it was the week before at English Turn.

They got a lot of the European players doing a pre-Masters warm-up, but most of the American top players stayed home. Especially with the Players right next to it for a lot of those years.
The quality of the fields is actually better now than at any time in the English Turn or TPC eras.

I don’t know how you got better than Azinger, Nicklaus. Faxon, Crenshaw, Mickleson, Love III, Couples, Payne Stewart etc. The field in the early to mid 90’s leading up to the Masters was the strongest it ever was.

There’s 0% chance they’ll put a team event the week leading up to the masters. The players would hate that.
I think it’s in a good spot right now. It’s in between majors and gives the players a little break. I think that’s why they’ve been able to attract pretty solid fields despite not being an elevated event.

You’re not comparing apples to apples.

True regarding a team event versus a regular event. Team event would not work in that slot. At least there still is an event in Louisiana. It was a great event though the week prior to the Masters.
