Would Mickelson winning the 2030 US Open be the most storybook win in golf history?

-60th birthday, would shatter his own record for oldest major winner (for reference, Watson was 59 when he came oh so close in 2009)
-completing his own career Grand Slam

For those two reasons alone, it'd have to be at the top. Especially if Connor Cink happened to be the one going blow-for-blow with him.

Ummm.... yeah sure.

Won't happen and a very outlandish hypothetical.

He’s gotta find a way to get in the field, but I guess it would be cool

not much will top Tiger 2019 or Ben Hogan returning from an almost deadly car wreck to win the 1950 US Open

I mean if we're going there why not 2040, he would be 70. Weird topic 5 years in advance....

I just checked and unless he gets a special exemption in 2026 or wins one of the other Majors between now and next June, the 2025 US Open will probably be his last.

Surely, he would get a special exemption if he is still playing. Tiger got one last year

I can’t imagine he would at 60 years old if he’s not still a real competitive golfer.

Phil ain’t Tiger, in a bunch of ways, and he’s pissed a lot of people off

I'd bet the farm that this won't happen..

Hell I'd wager a lot on him not making a cut in another major in the next 5 years

There is 0% chance the USGA will give a special exemption unless a lot changes between now and then, especially as someone who never won one.

I think Tom Watson winning the British at 59 years old would've topped both. It would've been his 8th major and 26 yrs after his 7th.
