Why don't more fringe American players play the Euro Tour?

Maybe I'm just ignorant on how you get on the European tour, but other than The Open and the Ryder Cup you rarely see Americans playing European Tour events (I know there are some exceptions please don't flood this thread with all the exceptions).

Couldn't a fringe PGA/Webb.com player make more money on the European Tour?

Take a guy like Tommy Fleetwood, he excels there and builds confidence, comes over and boom almost wins the US Open. I know he's better than most of the fringe PGA/Webb players but it just seems like a good way to get on a better tour

Prob a combination of things but I wouldn't want to do it full time because you are trying to kickstart your career playing a style of golf that you are likely unfamiliar with.

I do think guys would be well served to incorporate more tournaments from the overseas tours than playing only on the PGA.

The style of golf is different, you have to live in Europe alone, and the travel is pretty bad going between countries and a lot in the Middle East. That said, more and more people are doing it. Keopka did that and Peter Uhlein who was a really good ameteur player is over there as well. They try to get their world rank high enough to get their PGA card and move over instead of the traditional route over here.

European Tour has cracked down on the membership requirements - you have to commit if you want a card

Travel is a bitch - they go all over the world

Course layout - difficult for young yanks to have detailed course knowledge / experience

Payouts are not what thy were - the European Tour was looking at shutting down in 2009-2010 - the world economic crisis rocked the tour to its foundation - events and purses are not stable

There is a streaky influx of players fighting for status - ton of US college players go back home overseas to play the tour

for one, the euro tour is not in europe for the better part of 6 months of the year ... it's in asia/north africa/south africa till may ... the premier events in the latter part of the summer and into the dubai race require points, so you'd have to play well in the events of jan thru may ... most americans don't want to deal with that type of travel, esp since they probably don't pay much more than the web.com tour events ... one 2nd place finish in a third tier pga event is better than a win in some of those euro tour events ...
