Are people just that lazy?

If you are good enough to hit the green you are good enough to fix the mark! I bet I fixed 5-6 ball marks on every green this past Saturday.

Generally yes. One of my pet peeves as well.

95% of the people I play with have no clue how. Most don't even have a repair tool in their pocket.

I'll fix them for the group and any others I see.

Fixing a divot on the green is one of the few pleasures I get in golf

When I started playing for the golf team in high school, coach made us spent the first week in a classroom learning etiquette.

It's amazing how many of the people I play with regularly still don't know how to act

I agree. And most don't know how to repair a divot. At Koasati Pines at Coushatta Casino in Kinder actually gives the copper divot tools and reminds patrons to use them on the greens.

I think more assertive conversations at check in about the care of course including green divot repair is overlooked a bit by most courses.

My mind was blown when someone first showed me how to properly use the divot repair tool. Now I'm an old grizzled vet that fixes all the marks on the green as I bitch about idiot golfers that have no respect for the game.

Plus, I can't lie, fixing a divot is literally the only time I look like a pro golfer out there.

I’d estimate that 45% of golfers don’t know they’re supposed to fix ball marks or dont have a divot tool, 45% do it wrong and only 10% always carry a tool and do it the right way

Walking up to a par three with tool in hand looking for a ball mark is a good feeling.

Not directed at you, but just in case we have some newbs in here reading.

You dont need a divot tool to fix a divot. A tee works just fine.

Carry on.

I will admit that years ago I repaired the ball mark incorrectly. Using a repair tool and following this only takes a few seconds.
How to correctly repair a ball mark

This past Saturday, I marked 9 or 10 greens, but I probably fixed close to 100 ball marks in 18 holes.

I carry a ball mark repair tool that has two magnetic ball markers on it.

Also, if the cart has bottles with divot filler in them, I try to use them up filling divots in the round.

Video shows the difference between using a tee vs tool. Same results as far as I am concerned.

Sorry for those of you who spent cash on fancy tools.

Next time you see your superintendent ask him for one. When I worked maintenance we had a box of dozens we would find.

I agree that it looks the same in the video, but in my personal experience I don't repair them as well when I forget a tool and try to use a tee. Maybe I'm still doing it wrong or just not good at it but I find it way easier to use the divot tool. I also almost always buy a tool with a ballmarker at any nicer course I'm playing for the first time so I've got a ton of em

This is one of my pet peeves and my disdain for assholes who don’t fix ball marks is on par with left lane drivers. I love a good tool that clips on the inside of my shorts and has a ball marker with it. I’ve found a double pronged tool works much better than a tee.
