Tiger called him the purest hitter of all time. Why didn’t he make it?

Probably was a number of factors.
Wasn't much money on tour in his prime.
He won a lot on the Canadian tour. Traveling though out the US wasn't easy in the 40's and 50's.
Pure ball striker, but could he score under pressure against the best ?

He had severe social anxiety.

You still have to chip and putt.

He and BRgettheNet were the best I have ever seen with my own eyes.

He had autism, and was completely disheveled from a life standpoint. If golf was the only thing being a pro was about, he would have been great

He got heckled by a few fans in New Orleans during a PGA Tour tournament where he finished in the top five. The heckling bothered him so much he never stepped foot on the tour again.

That thing he did with his back ankle looks painful. I read he did that to make sure his left hip turned hard to the target rather than lifting up his right leg too soon. His swing looked funky but the consistency was amazing. He was so quirky I’m sure it would have been hard for him to survive on the pro tour.

^this.
I read a story where the Canadian tournaments had actual prizes like a microwave or a TV. One time he purposely finished third to win a TV because he already had whatever second or first was.
Another story was his caddy said, “just a driver and a 9 iron and we’ve won it.” Moe said, “hand me the 9 iron.”
Moe tees off with that 9 and hit driver off the deck to the green.
People thought he was odd and some made fun of him. Today with his talent, his team would insulate him from some of that.

I have a friend who has passed away. His name is Scott Myers and he was Tiger Woods before Tiger. But at 17 years old in 1979 he was the first person Golf Digest called the next Jack Nicholas. At 17 he qualified and played in the British Open in 1979. In the same Open Gaylord Burrows (Personal friend if Scott) of South Africa and Monroe La. Was in the second to last group on the final day.
Here is what I was told about Mo. Mo was awesome. But, Mo was Autistic and when he did play he could not conform to the Pro game. He would hit his ball and then start walking to his ball. He had no consideration for the Pros in his group. Basically from what I gather Mo just wanted to hit and go get the ball. His Autism did not allow him to care about the structure of the Pro game. He was focused on his ball and his ability to hit it. I don't even think he cared about money or score. It was hit the ball and tell you how he hit it so good.
This comment is not an exact quote and it's been years since this conversation with Scott and his Father. Hell, his father has been dead for 20 years and Scott for 6 or 7 years now.

Just started reading this book "The feeling of Greatness, The Moe Norman story". I was wondering about his story since I had seen videos(mostly single plane stuff) about how good a ball striker he was and decided to get the book. It's a great read.

I took a couple of lessons from Scott's dad, Johnny Myers, at the old Muni course in Monroe years ago.
He knew a helluva lot about the golf swing and was a great teacher.

I also heard someone say that in this day and time, with sponsors to help with money and a support staff to keep him organized and focused, he could have been very successful.
Unfortunately, those kind of resources were not available when Mo was around.
Still, the videos on YouTube are really great.
