I don't think you're in the minority on this. We probably feel this way because we lack decisiveness in team selection. At the beginning of the year our captain publicly stated that he would only play if he auto-qualified. Although he played well, he obviously didn't auto-qualify and yet he (and others) are considering whether he should choose himself.
Last Ryder Cup we had guys huddled around the captain politicking their way onto the team. It's becoming more like a reality show at this point. Silver lining, my wife may actually be interested in following golf now

I feel the same way. The Europeans are so much more organized and a team. It’s frustrating to watch.
It feels like Team USA has been completely overshadowed by their own captain who is on a personal revenge tour.
Just feels gross to me. May not make a difference in the end because I think bethpage will have such a home course advantage.

What has Keegan said that makes anyone think it’s a revenge tour? They made him captain, and he wasn’t exactly in line to be the captain, and he was still playing high level golf when they picked him. So it’s kind of the PGA America who created this mess. There are other guys who played in several Ryder cups who would have been a more traditional pick and we could have avoided all this.
Personally, I want Keegan to pick himself just for the entertainment and novelty, but also be used he can help the team. It’s an exhibition, not a war.
