what is the point of the Presidents Cup?

why not play the ryder cup every year
with the eyeballs on it, it's a no brainer

When it was started you had guys like Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Greg Norman and Nick Price all going strong. Retief Goosen a little bit later. Four or five (depending on the year) of the top ten players in the world in the 90s were non-US or European players.
So it made sense to do the presidents cup to get those guys into the mix of team golf. It’s lost of luster because Australia and South Africa have dropped off a lot as far as producing elite players.

Gross. The Olympic wouldn't be the Olympics if they did them every year. Same would go for the Ryder Cup. Some things are better when the excitement has time to build.

Also, IMG was trying to put something similar together. So, the PGA Tour threw together the President's Cup to beat them to the punch.

I think it’s awesome. So many great players never got a chance to play in this type of competition. Gary Player, Bob Charles just to name two. And don’t forget that The Ryder Cup was once USA v GB. The emergence of particularly Spanish golf changed the game and changed the competition.

Personally the presidents cup is lame. Just let the Ryder Cup be the USA vs the international team. I'd love to see a mixed team event where the USA men and Women compete against an international team of men and women. Hate to say it, but some of the women on the LPGA tour are more interesting to watch than the men. Now that you are gonna have more than half the tournaments with lesser players going forward, it's gonna be a boring watch.

That's never going to happen. Unlike the President's Cup, the Ryder Cup has a history. I realize they changed it from GB&I to Europe, but that was to save the competition. Now, it's a juggernaut. They don't need to add other players.

It doesn't appear that many people agree with you. The ratings for the Solheim Cup were so bad that even the media that tries to pump up the women's game was calling it out. I wouldn't be against making the President's Cup some sort of mixed event, though.

The President’s Cup should be converted into something similar to the Sketchers World Cup Challenge on the Senior tour. That event has a Team USA v. Team Europe v. Team International format.
Each hole is worth 3 points. Points are split based on whether a team beats other two, ties them, or ties one of them. Every hole means something in the overall team score. You play all 18 holes so you don’t end up with matches ending early, which makes better TV. And you have to beat two teams to win the Cup so it makes it more interesting coverage wise instead of having one team that appears so dominate over the only other team in the competition, like the Presidents Cup.
You could make it a men’s and women’s combined event and that further strengthens the International team.
Leave the Ryder Cup alone as it has the history to justify its current format.
