After failing to qualify for some mid-ams back in the late 90's, my cousin who was a very good golfer said, make bogey your worst score on a hole. I would shoot in the mid 80's only to see low 80's qualified. So, I went back and looked at all the missed cuts, and saw 4dbls in almost every round, with a triple mixed in. So, the next qualifier when I would hit into trouble, I would just punch out and play for bogey. It worked.

Play the shot you have that day and play your natural shot shape in general.
If you swing normally and it always fades, play the fade, do not try and hit it straight. Allow for your fade when aiming and vice versa.

When chipping, bring the club back the same distance in your backswing as you move it forward in your follow through. I was stabbing. Made me about 3-5 strokes better being able to chip consistently early on.
Needless to say, he told me that after the round and he had taken me for $60.

The best practice is without a ball and without a club. Learned how to shape any shot with visuals and or a grip in my hand.

Back when I was growing up in Monroe in the 80's, I practically lived on a 9 hole course by my grandmothers house by Neville High School that everyone just called Muni. I guess the reason I started playing golf in the first place as a teen is that all the guys on my mom's side all went to play golf after church every Sunday and I wanted to join them so bad. I played with a set of hand me downs and even took lessons from Johnny Myers, the pro at Muni but the best advice I ever got was from an old man named Frank Walker that would see me walking every afternoon as he practiced by Parkview Baptist Church on Hole #4. He pulled me aside one day and gave me a book written by Ben Hogan called Five Lessons. He said read this and learn it. I bet I can quote every page of that book to this day. It was like gospel to me. That was the best advice I ever received.

If you cheat, you only hurting yourself and it will destroy your game.
Leave the Course better than you found it.
And those Sand Bottles are to be used.

Don’t rush your swing. You don’t have to kill it.

Don't "cup" your left hand.
