What characteristics do you look for in an iron?

For me, it must provide instant feedback on where I struck the ball, and must provide some features to help me with my miss (chunks). Aesthetics play a little part but mostly the offset. I prefer minimal offset.

Minimal offset, high toe, thin top line.
I’ve played blades from high school, and most of my adult life. First cavity back irons for me were Titleist 695CBs. Now, I can’t give up my Callaway forged Apex irons. I prefer a certain look at address, and I need workability, and I get both.

Turf interaction and looks at address.
I'm not a blade guy, but I still want a clean look and not see anything on the back.

I figured it would be highest resell value for you.

Little offset and thin top line. But mostly I’m focused on feel. I want to know when I flush it and that soft spot. I like knowing even when I’m a little off and being able to tell exactly where without looking at the face.

I like my irons like I like my women.
Black, pretty face, and a thick backside

I love my Apex irons I have the first run of them. The cf16s, I'm going to set them down this year and give the Mizuno 225's a shot with the steel fiber graphite shaft. Just wave try something different. I really like the feedback they give

This is why I can’t get away from Srixon. Haven’t hit a chunk in over a year with that v-sole. Use to be 2x a round.

Which Srixon’s do you play?

Z785
I started with the z585 but too much offset for me. Was tugging stuff left. The 7’s fixed that right up. Very forgiving irons, and instant feedback on where I hit it on the face.

Thanks for the info! Ive heard some guys swear by them; never heard anything bad about them. I've been undecided between the newer ones they have ZX's.

Never worried about that.

I'm going to give the new X5's a good look this year.
I'm hoping that they have more shaft offerings this year.

I think people need to try the 7 line. If you can hit a ping i210, you’ll be able to hit the Srixon 7 line. The 5’s remind me of the Ping G25 that I use to dig trenches with.
I read a lot of reviews and typically play a cycle or 2 behind. Got a 5-pw for $300 and was a no brainer. These will be in the bag for a while because they’re some of the best (for my game) that I’ve ever tried, and I’ve hit them all. Gotta hit them on turf and not just a mat to get the full picture.

For me, it's mostly about look at address. I say this because every iron I have owned has performed well when struck in the center. If it looks good to me, I have a better chance at that.

Low dispersion and keeping height down in the blue. Distance on mishits is also a priority.

My list is long for sure but #1 is appearance when you look down on it. I like mine to look like a precision tool like a scalpel. I just can't handle the spaceshippy cartoony stuff they make anymore. Look like a splitting mail and it hard to tell where the face is pointing. That's just me though

First things first… How far does it carry on a low heel miss as compared to a center strike?
