Oxmoor and the one in Prattville were awesome but over crowded. Tees off at the later at12:30 in November and didn’t finish. Had three holes left.

It would be amazing to live in a place that has that many nice courses. Living in BR we don't have many options that come close to that.

That is why when I leave to play golf, elevation changes is my top priority.
To the guy who mentioned Swope in KC, yea that place has PLENTY of elevation changes. I really liked Stone Canyon in Blue Springs/Independence too.

You ever play Tobacco Road? That was one I checked out when I lived in NC. Not sure id want to play it weekly but man it’s an experience. Same designer as Tot Hill.
Yeah, a few times. Not in a while though. They've upped their prices to like $270. They're part of the Pinehurst packages now.
Very cool course.

I wouldn't say it's terrible but it's not as good as it should be. I enjoy Northwood and Crooked Hollow. Fun layouts and both have gotten better with their greens. Fairways are hit and miss

I am in Chicago it’s golf heaven! There are more quality courses in a 10 mile radius of my house than the state of Lousinana. It’s why I moved out of Louisiana. Afghanistan has better courses than lousinana

I’m in Northern Virginia now and the public options are terrible. Either you’re paying $150 for somewhere fine but not amazing or you are looking at a dog track for $80 and a 5.5 hr round.
I was super lucky to grow up playing in Oregon where the public golf was incredible. Eastmoreland is from the 1910s and hosted the Pub Links a bunch of times. I could play as a junior for $10. I could go play Pumpkin Ridge for $25. Then you have all the amazing public courses in Bend and the obviously Bandon

Around Augusta, probably the best public golf is Mount Vintage, but it’s a bit of a drive.
When they open The Patch up in 2026, it will likely be the best. Forest Hills is nice, but overpriced.
If you want to go a little further out, I’ve heard good things about Savannah Lakes.
Eisenhower Lakes is the military course. I played there recently, and it was in good shape.
I like Belle Meade in Thomson, but the back 9 is quirky.
Applewood is probably the best deal as far as price goes.
I’ve heard good things about the Aiken Golf Club. I played there 30 years or so ago when it was called Highland Park. My understanding is that it has been restored nicely. When I was there- it had “potential”.

You might think Central Florida is also a Golf HAVEN, and there are quite a few courses. Public courses are a crap shoot. Each courses waxes and wanes. One month they are good and then a month later they are barley playable.
The ones that are worth a darn are pricey (isn’t everything). Winter rates are in effect ($75), so everything is $20-$30 more than summer rates. SUCKS.
I play a course close to home that has a FANTASTIC layout, conditions are very good, but not pristine.
The signature hole does not exists any more. The last hurricane took out most of the trees behind the green (and on the course) and put the green under water and it was just now emerged from that lake. Believe it or not, the water was OVER those traps. It was a great hole. The new green is left and behind the original green. Just not as intimidating.

Man Greensboro area has to be in there towards the top for public courses. That’s amazing. I live in Memphis and we don’t have anything super nice as far as public goes. Miramichi is about 20 minutes north of the city. It’s a very solid track. The munis are very urban and short (except for the newly renovated Audobon). Most serious players in this city are at one of the private clubs.

I live in The Villages now, and we have 918 holes available. The original 18 is not great, but all of the newer ones are solid. I take a pass on all of the executive courses. They take a beating with sun up to sun down play.
The Woodlands opened last week, and it is the only championship track I haven't played yet. Lopez, Glenview, Southern Oaks, Palmer, Cane Garden, Havana, and Mallory Hills are my favorites. I can take my cart to all of them, and most have good restaurants for lunch afterwards. Prices are pretty good for members. I pay less than $50 per round. Lots of leagues and tourneys with high-quality golfers for competition as well. I love it.

That sounds incredible. I’ve heard the Villages is a great spot to settle down. Didn’t know about all the golf

It is a 55+ community, but anyone can come in to play the courses. Residents get a reduced rate, and you can buy an Enhanced Membership for lower rates and higher priority for tee times and course selection.
If anyone is ever interested in The Villages, they have a Lifestyle Package where you get a house, cart, and membership for a few days so you can see what it is actually like to live here. When you visit, you keep telling yourself that this place can't be real, but it's real.
... and the STD stories you always hear are a myth.

Without the spacing nine 18 hole courses looks like 918 holes.
I was like “man, 918 holes? How many courses is that. It’s like 51 courses!”

It is 918 holes. We have 15 championship courses with 18 or 27 holes each. We play the 27 hole courses in waves. Tee times run from 7:30 to 9:28 for morning rounds. Foursomes. If you start on A, you go to B for the back nine. The people that start on B go to C. The people that start on C go to A for the back nine. For example, I am at Evans Prairie tomorrow. I start on the Osprey 9 and turn to Egret. I won't play Killdeer. On Friday I am at Havana and will play Kenya and Hemingway. The afternoon wave starts just before noon. The courses with only 18 holes have straight tee times all day.
The rest of the holes are executive courses or pitch and putt courses. The executive courses are par 27 to 29. The pitch and putt courses are 9 holes under 100 yards. Very good for wedge practice to real greens. All of these courses are free for residents. There are 50 or so of these courses. There are 4 in my neighborhood.

Weekends however always seem to get the hacks who can’t seem to figure out a ball in the deep rough on the Senator isn’t going to be found unless you step on one, which probably isn’t yours. That’s when the 5 hour rounds start happening and there’s not much the marshals (and I’m friends with them all) can do to speed things along when there’s 5 groups all doing it.
The Judge shouldn’t take that long but always does, that ball isn’t coming out of the water unless a gator is bringing it back to you.

How far apart are they?
That is an amazing amount of courses and options.

All of the courses are within 30 to 35 minutes by golf cart. I live in the middle of the community, so most of the courses are within 15 to 20 minutes by cart. If you live towards the north or South border, the longest drives will run you an hour by cart, so most people will take a car and pair up with someone more local. I have 4 executive courses within 5 minutes and another 20 or so within 15 minutes.
I think you can go anywhere in The Villages and throw a rock in any direction, and you will hit someone in the head that is playing golf. We do more than 3 million rounds per year.
