Talk about being kicked in the gut...no warning or talk...they just shut the course down.

Reason was the owner of the property (Frontier Nursing School) who leased it said it was not solvent.

Feeling at a loss right now.

That’s how I felt when my home course shut down. (Oaks at Sherwood) Woke up to play 18 in the morning only to learn they just shut down without a warning.

I used to love playing Briarwood. Every time I'm sitting in traffic on Airline in front of the old clubhouse, I get a little depressed.

I feel your pain. My club, Tchefuncta CC, just raised its fees to astronomical levels and basically told us old farts to go pound sand.

What are the fees now compared to previously?

I used to be a member there. Heard it wasn’t doing that great recently?

What's the current word on Tchefuncta CC? About to move to the area and thinking about joining (albeit I don't actually know the monthly fees or initiation fee). Better location for me compared to Beau Chene

Beau Chene having two courses is really nice. BC and TCC really aren’t very far from each other. I’d for sure give it at least a ponder before jumping in at TCC

The average golf course makes 100 to 200k and very few are never a bad few years away from insolvency. 18 hole golf is trending down and the creation of Top Golf type places are pulling more attention deficient millennial's away. Will be hard for many golf courses to stay open over the next decade.

It's impressive when someone can say something and the literal exact opposite be true.

Its very true if you remove 2020. Yes rounds were up but there were no other alternatives. Over the next decade the largest subset of golfers will be declining due to age and the generations that follow wont carry the slack. The hope is 2020 introduced golf to enough people that will continue playing when the world goes back to normal. No one knows though.

You are both right. 2020 was a banner year bc of the pandemic. But it will go back to trending down unless all those people who golfed because no other options existed stay in the game.

Between work and my kids, I rarely can play 18 at the four hour round pace. I can maybe sneak in 9 with my oldest or a late afternoon 18 when no one is on the course. The days of my chilhood where my dad played 36 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday after church are over, I think.
