Webb Park Lessons

Anyone know of someone willing to do lessons at Webb Park? Live nearby and don’t have the available time to drive to some of the further courses.

It will be difficult for someone to give good lessons at Webb since they don't have a driving range. I'm sure they could work on aspects of your swing, short game, and putting but the fact that they couldn't really analyze your ball flight would definitely impact the effectiveness of the lesson

Golftec is just up the street on Corporate.

I wouldn't do it. I REALLY liked the initial visit that was an hour but the rest of the lessons are like 30 min and around $100 a piece. Oversold everything and I won't be going back. I will always have it in the back of my mind that they will purposely hold back info in a lesson to give more.

They did add somewhat of a driving range now...not sure what you call it... several lanes and nets about 20 yards in front of them.

OP, as others have stated, lack of a range will present problems. That being said, what do you need help with? If it's the basics and making consistent contact, you dont really need a full range. If you're more than a beginner, you'll probably want a range.

The first option. Getting the grip correct, swing down, and just getting the ball in the air...just trying to get a solid foundation to build off of.

Then nets shouldn't be an issue. Have you called the course and see if they know of anyone?

Yes. Called Webb specifically...said they had no one...if I wanted lessons via BREC to call Santa Maria.

Speaking of Webb, I hear they will be redoing the greens on #10 and #16 soon to make them larger.

Speaking of Webb greens, is it my imagination or have they shrunk a lot since 1970?

Greens shrink over time and raise up some because of splashing sand out of traps. That's just the reality of most golf courses.

I understand. They were relatively small then and looking now they look so small. They were hard to hold then, and there wasn’t a plethora of wedges like there are now. The strategy on several of the holes was to bomb a drive and try and chip close. But some holes were banked enough to hold a 7 iron or less. A fee could hold a longer iron.
Today I bet it really plays short. Fewer trees, better equipment etc.
Scores from the better players has to be low.
They need another major overhaul. Another major restoration.
I’d like to see it get some of the old flavor back, but BREC had SM and Beaver Creek now which are much better facilities and are the better courses.

Man, I hope so. #10 is such a straight forward short hole, but if you miss that green anywhere but short, it is extremely tough to get anything to stick on the green.

It was that way in the 70s. Imagine pitching up to the green off those hard crab grass fairways with an old pitching wedge. You really had to have a lot of finesse.

It's a tough hole sometimes because of the green. If you hit the drive pin high right of the path, you have no chance of holding the green or getting in close. Short left is perfect.

It’s all about keeping the tee shot in front of the green. Or at least it use to be that way. With the pin up front you had to bounce it up. With the pin in the back you could pitch into the green. It was all finesse. Go right you were dead, but left especially in the hard pan along the tree line was also terrible.

This. Front pin position is tough on that hole.
