Titleist clubs for beginner?

I haven't played in quite some time and I want to put together a bag. I have seen some really good reviews on the ap1 716s so I was thinking about starting my bag with that set of irons. Seem to be really forgiving which is a huge draw for me and truly my only starting criteria. Wanted to run it by the TD experts to see if I can get a little more input. TIA

AP1 would be the way to go if going Titleist

You can go Ping for a little cheaper, and more forgiving. If you want then that bad, though AP1's are really good.

Wanna try some AP2's with fresh Z cords and S4Hundos?

Lol, I think the ap2 would be a little to difficult for me. I was in the high eighties pretty consistently when I played high school golf but that's been ten years. I'm hoping it comes back easy but who knows.
Thanks for the input from everyone else, I think they'd be a good set. For someone like myself looking for forgiveness above pretty much anything else for the time being, how should I round out the bag? I'm think four through gap irons, Scotty putter, and my bigger questions would be woods. Obviously a driver but then three wood, five wood, and a rescue or two?

Would you strongly recommend another brand by chance? I'm not gung ho on titelist but I've heard some good things and the reviews seem stellar for what I'm looking for.

Taylormade woods/driver, IMO. Unless you're an OT baller and can spring for the Callaway Epic.

Yeah I've heard good stuff about those. Is it frowned upon to mix brands in the bag?

If you haven't played in a while, buy a used set of TM speedblades. No sense on dropping a ton of cash if you aren't sure that you're gonna stick with it.

I just went through what you're doing now. I've played golf a few times each year since I was a kid, and have always used my dad's hand me downs. I've started playing more and wanted to upgrade the 20 year old set I have. I decided on a price I was comfortable with ($600) and looked at what I could afford.
I went with a used set of Ping G10 irons and driver which ran me $350 total (good condition). I should be able to get a 3 wood and SW to round it out and keep me under budget.
When it comes to the top brands game improvement clubs, there's probably not much difference. I just gravitated toward the old pings.
Golf Avenue and 3balls were the two online stores I shopped for used clubs.

Titleist is good stuff, no doubt, but for a beginner like yourself they are not necessary. Two good brands to look at that will not be quite as expensive, but have many options for someone looking for forgiveness overall would be Ping and Calloway for irons. They both have multiple lines that are game improvement. For woods and irons, most of the big brands make good stuff. Like someone else said the Epic is probably the hottest thing out right now, but it's going to run you $500 or more.
Like anything else, everything depends on what you want to spend. For new AP1's an Epic, and a Scotty putter, and wedges your looking at $2000+.

If I were in your spot, I would go get fitted. Then, go on eBay and find that set. There is nothing wrong with a used set of clubs. Especially if you are unsure if you intend to stick with it.
Last, there is nothing wrong with having different brands of clubs on the bag. 99% of amateur golfers have a mixed bag.

I actually completely disagree with this statement. He is just restarting golf. This means his swing will change 100 times over the next year. What exactly are you fitting?
Fittings are great, but I don't see the point until you have a semi consistent swing that is repeatable.

I'd buy a cheap set of AP2's, cough cough, for like $170 from Net, cough cough, and see what your swing is going to do over the course of a year.
Get fitted after that and keep the apes as a back up set, or travel bag.

Why are you selling AP2's so cheap?

Height and arm length?

I thought about the length factor especially since I'm 6 2. But I'm just gonna go with a longer shaft and then get truly fitted later on if need be. Also, I should definitely be going steel over graphite right? As for price, I know the titelist are slightly expensive but the way I see it is if I put together a good bag I can either replace it if I start really getting into it OR if I don't play often then at least when I do I know I'll have a really nice set of fogiving clubs that will look nice for business golf and such. I'm not rich by any means but I do have a decent amount of disposable income. I'm pretty sure I'll play a decent amount tho and even if I get after it for a year then I feel like a thousand dollars on a full set is worth it for the entertainment and physical excercise. Oh and I'm definitely buying used lol.

At 6'2" you're an idiot if you don't take up Net one his offer. Those clubs will for you great. I'm 6'3" and hit those things well. They are butter.

He said he'll think about it, but you would have to cover the cost of having them cut down to fit you.
ETA: just messing with you bandit
