Strapped Tallahassee

Ever since the Baton Rouge strapped I’ve been hooked. They went to Tallahassee this season and I feel like it wasn’t as good as a few of the others. Anyone else watch it yet?

They filmed it during the winter and the Vid, not much they could do except stsy pretty local and play the golf.

True, but the Baton Rouge/Nola Strapped was filmed in the winter and I thought pretty good. The Tallahassee Strapped could’ve been done better. Not enough focus on the actual courses and other than Jay in the first episode. The other guests weren’t too entertaining

They did the BR Strapped when South Louisiana was coming off of a winter monsoon season. Courses were in absolutely terrible shape. That kind of hurt the heart bc City Park is a fun little course, I just wish it was in the condition it is now for the show.
Santa Maria was also a badish choice for the second round. It just doesn't really fit that shows ethos IMO.
Tallahassee was good. The focus wasn't intended to be the courses, bc honestly, the courses didn't look that good. Especially with the weather. I think the focus was intended to be HBCUs and they did a good job showing that.

Watched the last one this morning. I liked it.
I liked some of the other seasons more, but I appreciate what they were trying to do with this season. I’ve never really thought about HBCU golf programs...hell, I don’t really think about college golf at all.
Considering Strapped (roughly) is a show about golf on a tight budget, highlighting a college program with limited resources was interesting. And the coach was an interesting dude.

It was a bit underwhelming given their usual standard but I still thought it was enjoyable. The FAMU coach was hilarious.
Figured it was just a spot they could do cheaply within a short drive of Jax.

Yeah, it would have been more entertaining to watch Big Randy get smoked trying to cross College Drive while going from 7 green to 8 tee at Webble Beach.

They went all SJW with the HBCU golf - sorta dampens the whole strapped vibe.
No offense to FAMU golf, but 99.9% of golfers don’t care about any college golf....even the highest level D1 programs have limited following.
Heck - many pro golfers bypass college golf.

How is trying to help a college golf team "woke?" Because they're black? It's not like they were trying to push some crazy agenda.

Well maybe now a few more do. I don't see how anyone could perceive that as a bad thing.

I’m not saying some golfers don’t attend college but this isn’t college basketball. All but 2 players (both European) in the top 10 rankings attended college. College golf is a big deal and although i don’t follow it, i probably would watch it if there was more access. I’d actually say only a minimal fraction of professional golfers actually didn’t attend college.

Almost every single American professional golfer attended college. The only two off the top of my head that I can think of are Kevin Na and Akshay, I'm sure there's a couple more. Guys like Adam Scott, Jon Rahm, and countless other euros did as well.
He has no idea what he's talking about is just trying to make it about politics.

Yeah i thought that was an odd statement. Hatton and Rory are the only ones that didn’t attend college in the top 10 and you’d have a hell of a time finding the ones who didn’t attend college who play on the tour. Guys come from across the world to come play college golf in the states.

I don't think they were trying to get you to care about FAMU or college golf. If you watched Strepped: Tallahassee and thought they were trying to get people to care about college golf, you missed the point.
NLU has done a really good job of trying to highlight how hard it is for African Americans or Poor Americans to gain access to the game. These episodes focused on showing an HBCU that has very little money and all of the issues that surround that. It made me think about why golf is so expensive, and why your parents basically have to be wealthy for you to chase the dream. And I think that was the point of the series.

Guys like Adam Scott
The Andres Gonzales story about Adam Scott in college was great. It's somewhere in the Golf Subpar podcast a few weeks back. That whole episode was

One of my complaints is they didn't get enough interview time with him. He seemed like a cool dude, just didn't do a great job of us getting to hear him speak about himself.

Shouldn't have done Santa Maria, Webb Park, LSU, or even Beaver/Copper would've been better, but at least they had drama near the end with Neil coming back with birdie and eagle. Heck the Bluffs would have been really cool too.
Think the biggest problem with this season was they didn't let the guests speak enough, no real drama with Neil or Randy breaking par, and the city not getting much love either. Iowa, Louisiana, and Peoria have been my three favorites. Tallahassee, Northeast, and Reno probably the three worst imo.

I liked part 1. I’m a big fan of Jay Revell.

Ryan Lavner wrote a really good article on Willie Mack III which adds to the narrative of how tough it is for guys in tough situations to succeed.

Northeast,
Admittedly, getting to play Yale was cool as hell. That course looks awesome. I will seek it out to play if/when next time I am in the area.
